Stepping Into Depression, Climbing Back Out
From childhood memories to my experiences with depression Stepping into depression, Climbing Back Out is created
Stepping Into Depression, Climbing Back Out
Looking down at the empty basement,
It seems inviting,
Yet lonely
Why would I go there?
To see what it's like
I've been there before
Why would I go again?
I take hold the banister and look around me.
No one around watching.
I know it is wrong.
So I take one step down towards the dark.
I hear voices of laughter down the hallway.
I take another step quickly so they do not see me
I want to hide where I am going.
They would ask questions
I do not want to answer.
They would tattle
I just want to be alone
I want to hurt
I want to be miserable.
I do not know why
I only know I feel something calling me
Towards the darkness.
So I take another step.
Looking back I hear them coming closer
So I take a few more steps
Towards the deep cold darkness
That lies at the bottom.
They find me as I take another step
down towards the empty lonely basement
I turn to see my friends
I want to join them
In their fun
In their play
I'm frozen
I want to go back into the light
Though something is pulling me into the dark.
I trip and fall.
Tumbling to the bottom.
Bruised, It seems I hurt everywhere
I'm at the cold, dark, empty bottom.
It's damp and lonely
My friends encourage me to come back up
I don't know how
I'm frozen in fear
There are noises here in the dark
Take hold the banister my friends say
I search for it in the dark.
Found it.
I grab on tight to the banister.
Clinging with tearing eyes for it is my only hope out.
I turn to look into the dark
Something is there.
I do not know what
I look under the stairway.
Something is there.
Something scary,
Something with glowing red eyes,
Ready to harm me.
Take a step up my friends encourage
I'm to afraid to move
My friends don't understand
They are not at the bottom
To them coming back up seems so easy.
My friends grow weary and leave.
No!

Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, But faith looks up! Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly and trust in our Creator who loves us.

A very good poem, Pine.
It really "tells it like it is" with regard to the topic you addressed.
