Re: to facebook or not to facebook?

From the perspective of a teenager who has grown up around technology, I think Facebook can be very useful. It is a great way to connect with friends. I agree, especially from the teenagers around me, that there is a lot of negative or disrespectful/sinful content on facebook. But the way I see facebook is an outreach opportunity. Sooo many people can see my posts, so a christian post can make a big difference. Even to those who are non-christian and have no intention of going to church anytime soon, they see a christian status and it can plant a seed in their hearts. Our youth group has recently grown from 20-30 people to 80-90 people attending each week, and texting is no longer a practical way to contact everyone to let them know of youth events, but facebook works because most of them use facebook. It also lets other teens know whats going on so they can come!

I have seen people whose lives have been changed because they saw a youth group event advertised on facebook and decided to come...and now are christians who are in church and youth group regularly. Yes, there is a lot of negative stuff on facebook, but I guess it comes down to how you use facebook. What are you filling up your life with? If you fill your life with God, and not the negative stuff, and use facebook as an outreach and a way to connect with friends, that's great. Don't dwell on the negative stuff, find some christian friends on facebook :)
Don't cry because its over.

Hi everyone...just wanted to clarify that I didn't really message my ex-friend for forgiveness...it was just a gesture that whatever happened, I don't hold the grudge. She responded the same. :) I think we are cool...but don't think we will ever be the same again. I think that is ok too. There is no bad feeling between us now. We cleared it but so much has changed that we don't think we can ever be the way we were.

Also, thank you to those who shared the positive things about fb. I should also share the good news with others on fb but I have not. Most of my "friends" are not Christians. Some say they are but don't know if they are (not being judgemental here...just my true concern). So I applaud those who do. Hopefully I will become brave and wise to successfully share the gospel on fb. :)

Can I just tell you that I have deleted my fb today? Can I also tell you that I feel SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO freed? Weird. I know there are so many positive things with fb but for me, personally, it has been a portal to lots of negativity. I tried to justify that I can overcome the negative but really, it wasn't worth it...AT ALL. I feel so freed. I am not sure why my sharing this is any good...but I did. :) God bless you all, oasis family!

I'm a big FB fan. I think it is great for keeping up with old friends, and in meeting new ones. Everyone is interesting because everyone has a unique story. Sure, some people are jerks, but you can block them. There are a lot of worthwhile causes on FB also. I'm always interested in new FB friends so feel free to friend me at http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003638853648 or send me a message from within FB to 100003638853648@facebook.com
