Losing my Voice
I have been dealing with depression for almost a year now ( at least diagnosed probably a lot longer). I have tried drugs and all sorts of help.
I have had a really big breakthrough in the last month as I got back to finding Christ and asking him to help.
However this week has been a real low point as I have gone backwards quite drasticly. I have been reading the 5 Languages of Apology and really trying to make amends with people, however, I feel completely ignored as I try and bring friends back into my life to help me with recovery, I feel more isolated than ever before. The couple of people that I can reach out with only want to tell me what to do and how to get better. But their advice only makes me feel worse.
The only real friend I have is my wife who I don't live with because of work and my problems tend to overwhelm her and lead to me becomining very mean and angry. I have a better relationship than ever with my kids but any adult conatct seems to be missing.
I am in a small town and it seems everyone has their friends and are not interetsed in being friends with someone who is down and needs help. The most frustrating is that I have become involved in church and feel so good being their every Sunday but all those people disappear on me until the next Sunday.
I just wish I could find some friends that truly want to help me become teh person I once was.

Re: Losing my Voice
Hi Coach-Harmon,
Sorry to learn of the harsh trials you've been going through. I know it's not the same as the personal aspect to actually being in a physical church building surrounded by brothers and sisters in Christ, but in this online community you are certainly among friends.
There are many bible verses that offer encouragement to those going through the sorts of times you are going through; here are two that I'd like to make reference to at this point.
Psalm 145:14
“The LORD upholds all that fall, and raises up all those that are bowed down.”
Nahum 1:7
“God is good, a hiding place in tough times.
He recognizes and welcomes anyone looking for help,
No matter how desperate the trouble.”
I don't pretend here to have definitive answers for you, but I know that God does. Sometimes He will act quickly and at other times we must remain persistent. I will pray for you, that He would help you make more and more gains, and to keep them, that He help you go from strength to strength.
Remember that the enemy, that very real leader of the evil spirit world known as satan, likes to attack us, not only through temptation to sin, but by taking a hold on our negative emotions and amplifying them within us.
God reminds, and encourages us in 1 Peter 5:9-11, ' But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen.'
In short, God loves you and is happy you've turned to Him for help, and if you stick with him, your hard times will one day become ancient history. In the mean time, pray to Him that he put the corrent dynamics in place, for all concerned, that you start to develop meaninful associations with other adults within your small community, in the mean time giving thanks to The Lord for the positive relationship you already have with your kids.
God bless you, and please stay in touch with us here on this thread and onlince community in general.
