What does this verse mean?

Postby Dora » Mon Jan 16, 2012 8:43 pm

Pro 20:30 Blows that hurt cleanse away evil, As [do] stripes the inner depths of the heart.
*angel7* Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, But faith looks up! Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly and trust in our Creator who loves us.

I see it as either trials or discipline make us into stronger people whether it's physical or emotional.

easy to read version,

(A beating can remove evil and make you completely clean.)

Allthough I don't know that I can agree with this without more to back it up, This IS a confusing verse to me as well,
I cannot wait to hear others input on this

Hello Piney (((hugs)))

God bless you this day.

Proverbs 20:30 The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.

Well, in my language: A bully that constantly inflicts fear in others and pummels them and doesn't take verbal correction, is more likely to think twice about behaving that way again, if he, himself, gets a pummeling. And so too, are the convictions of the The Holy Spirit. When we get those strong corrections from The Holy Spirit, it is a good thing.

Hebrews 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised (trained) thereby.

God bless and keep you, Piney.
Love,
Mack

Ever noticed ? After almost 99% of a physical fight , both parties end up licking their wounds ? That's because in all fights , both parties receive blows , and , each of parties involved , in their minds , saying "Ishouldn't have done or said that " , or , " if I only had done or said this or that instead" . Even when one recieves a blow without having being engaged in any fight at all , one receives a blow because of something done or said something that necessitated some kind of a blow to stop the "action" taken , thus the person would end up saying " I shouldn't have done that " - Evil, whether thought or action , being driven out of them - But the Proverb doesn't stop there , that's because the Author is saying "even though the blow drove the evil thought out , it doesn't mean it wont be repeated , that's why he added the stripes , as in lashes , punishment of a sort , go deep within the innards , as in a constant reminder of the consequences .

A blow will stop an evil action .... Sripes will remind him what would happen if repeated .

However many cents that's worth :)

This guy seems to have a pretty good explanation of it.
