Ps 4
Psalms 4 : 3 - 8

3 But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear when I call unto him.

4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.

6 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.

8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only
makest me dwell in safety.


verse 3 .... lets take the second part first.. the LORD WILL HEAR when i call unto HIM... when we call and cry out to HIM, sometimes it feels like HE'S listening, and Sometimes if feels like HE'S not..... sometimes it even seems IMPOSSIBLE that HE could POSSIBLY be listening and focusing on us EVERY second of the day.. and also listening to the millions of other prayers from the rest of HIS flock at the same time... but we forget so easily that GOD our SAVIOR is not like us.. NOT even CLOSE....GOD is someone we cannot even BEGIN to comprehend.. HE hears EVERYTHING we say to HIM .. EVERYTHING.. sometimes we get worried, because often when we pray, things dont work out the way we expect.. or the way we want them to.. or we feel that nothing is being done at all..

when Job called out to GOD.. GOD heard HIM... the FIRST time.. Job felt like GOD had abandoned him, that GOD was ignoring him..

Job 30 : 20 I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up and thou regardest me not.

But GOD was listening... HE was listening VERY carefully, not just to what Job was saying, but also to the things that Job's "friends" were saying... After GOD gives Job quite the lecture at the end of the book.. He addresses Job's friends

Job 42 : 7 And it was so, that after the Lord had spoken these words unto Job, the Lord said to El'-i-phaz the Te'-man-ite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.

GOD listened and heard everything Job had said... He could have recited it back to Job word for word... GOD listens to us with more attentiveness, remembers what we say with more accuracy than we can ever comprehend. God also understands our feelings, and knows our intentions... sometimes before we even do.. because God listens not just to the words we speak.. but also listens to our hearts....

I Samuel 16 :7 (second half) for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.

Acts 15 : 8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us.

first part of verse 3 --- But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself. ... we are separated from those who are not in HIM.. we are HIS little children, HIS sons, HIS daughters, HIS sheep, HIS servants......... we are HIS.... this verse also reminds me of the fact that someday we will be separated from pain, from our sin nature, from every thing that causes us pain.. when we go home someday.. all that's gonna disappear.

Revelation 21 : 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

verse 4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still.

we see it again in chapter 46 : 10 (first half) Be still and know that I am God:

meditating on GOD..... can bring so much peace.. so much joy.. and a feeling of complete content.... when the world seems to nothing but chaos... try this.. just be still ...and focus on GOD.. praise Him .... Exalt HIM.... and everything else will just melt away...

verse 6 and 7...

GOD should be a source of happiness.. our being made whole by God... just knowing that there IS a GOD... who loves us.. should fill us with happiness.. greater than.. any happiness we feel because of earthly things.

GOD is the ONLY one with PERFECT love. with PURE love.. with ultimate strength.. with ultimate understanding, compassion, acceptance... the ONLY one who can offer us complete and eternal love... and protection... trust in HIM... rest in HIM...
