Road Trips
Do we have any road trippers in the house? Where I live it basically takes an hour or two to cross from one end of the country to the other so I cant really call it a road trip... plus I get car sick alot! There is always dramamine in my bag. So as you can tell my road trips are lamo
But for those who have done it before, would luv to hear about some of em. Where ya went, who u went with, stops along the way, sights etc.
Post your road trippin memories!

Nene and I have taken several road trips with my sister and Southernboy...but I have to tell the story of about 3 years ago when we went on a local trip to Six Flags which is about 2 hours away from me. We wanted to be there for when the park opened so I went to my sister's house to pick her up around 7:30 that morning...she was in a hurry as she always is, and she gets in the car...carrying a plate of eggs...and proceeds to dump them all over the car...that was the beginning of an interesting day. When we got to Six Flags we were to meet our cousin there, she was running late so we decided to go ahead and go in the park. We gathered up all our stuff, and then Southernboy says wait...I need a water, so I gave him the keys to the car and he went and got a water and proceeded to lock the keys to the car in the trunk. I did not have a spare, and I was 2 hours from an extra key. I called a locksmith to come out, we waited like an hour for them to show up. When they get there they can't find a way to open the trunk, so they say they are going to have to make a key, so they take the lock out of my door to try to use as a sample to make a key, and he can't get one made that will open the trunk. So I called my dad, and he said to call the company I bought my car from and ask them for the keycode to make a key from. Problem with that is you have to go to the company to get that type of information normally because they don't just give it out over the phone. So when I called and they told me this, I explained in a panic by this time that I was 2 hours from home, in the middle of a parking lot with a locksmith trying to get my trunk open and really needed the information. They finally had compassion on me, and gave me the code, and the locksmith made a key and $150 and 2 hours later I finally had my keys out of the trunk.
Then my cousin showed up and we all went in to ride rides. Well towards the end of the day, the kids got me on a rollercoaster and I got sick But the kids had a great time. When we left the park that night it was around 10 and somehow I ended up getting lost in the dark, so we drove for awhile in circles until I figured out my way.
Needless to say this may not have been a long road trip...but it was a long day.

Do you know my Jesus? Do you know my friend? Have you heard He loves you? If not, I'd like to introduce you.

oh wow...one of my favorite road trips was one i was able to take with my mom. She and i had never gone anywhere out of Phoenix together and i hadnt had a vacation from work in at least 8 years ( i owned the company and the boss never got a vacation )
anyway, my sister had passed away suddenly not too long before this..and through that the Lord was beginning to show me...(or maybe i was just beginning to hear Him ) how my priorities had been a lil umm....backwards..anyway, i called my mom and said, "pack your bags, we are out of here for a week" she asked where we were going and i told her didnt know, didnt matter..we would just drive till we wanted to stop.
We went up north and took the long way to get there. We saw the beautiful majestic mountains, the cool springs and creeks, heard awesome thunder rolling through the mountains of Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon, saw just about every lil critter the terrain sheltered..slept as late as we wanted to, ate as much as we could handle, read, talked, took pictures..up to this point, id never taken a picture of my mom as neither one of us liked our pictures being taken, but we did, anyway.
In a week's time, she and i learned more about each other than we had ever known. Old memories and hard feelings had been put to rest. We drove by the house she lived in in the town of Flagstaff while pregnant with my older brother, who passed away at the age of 10..bittersweet.
The best part of the whole thing was, in looking back, the reconciliation the Lord knew we needed between and within ourselves. Several months later my mom passed away unexpectedly. A close friend of mine was at my home one day watching my kids and found some film that had not been developed. She took it to have the pictures made without letting me know. I thought I had lost that roll of film. I look at those pictures now and know that the whole trip had been just a part of God's loving plan for renewal and reconciliation between the best of friends, in this world and lifetime.
We serve an awesome God.

I remember this thread! I was going to post but had to think of a cool road trip to talk about. Then I forgot.
Mom I felt like I was riding along with you as I read about your trip this morning. I smiled, I cried, and it brought back my own memories.
For my family we've often gone to Missouri to visit family every chance we could. It's 900 miles, 14 hours travel if you only stop to fuel use the potty and jump back in the vehicle. We're older now so those stops require some stretching.
I remember leaving snow covered Michigan and stopping at a rest stop where there was green grass. It felt so wonderful to feel warm air and grass that the kids and I played in the grass. They were just toddlers then. Cubby was busy checking out the vehicle and such. He really wanted to get back on the road but allowed us to have some time to play. I miss those days when my kids were so little.
Then there's the time there was an accident on 80/90 in Illinois. We had borrowed cubbys parents van and had put a little tv in it so the kids could watch videos. As we sat we noticed all the people in the cars around us were looking in our windows watching the kids Disney shows. When we started moving one guy rolled down his window and said thanks for the entertainment, it made the wait feel shorter.
When we cross the Missouri river into St.Louis everyone is excited. We stopped once and went up into the arch. Was really cool. Lots of history there plus the view from the top is amazing. The ride up is like being in a wash machine with 8 other people though. Kinda freaky. When the wind blows you can feel the arch swaying. That is really freaky.
We are planning a trip in April of this year. If the Lord is willing. Cubby said we are going to go in the arch again.
I get really nervous when we go. But seeing my nieces and nephews faces makes it all worth while.
Many trips down Michigan, across Indiana and through Illinois to get back home. Often the van was packed to the hilt on the way down and grandma would send packages back with us. Cubby be scratching his head trying to figure out how to fit it all. Snacks, activities, people stinky feet cause they removed their shoes. This time I'm taking ear plugs.
I remember one time when snowflower was about 5 we got about 30 minutes into the trip and she asked if we were there yet. That time was a long trip.
