Most Memorable Family Tradition

Postby SimplyBreezy » Mon Oct 26, 2009 6:18 am

Does anyone have any family tradition that they can remember most from their past? Their most favorite one of all times that they can remember. :)

Have fun sharing the past times and blessed memories.

Sincerely,

Breezy

Aww nice topic breeze *hug*

We used to have pretty nice Christmas Day family gatherings too, but as time went on, a lot of the elders passed away, younger ones moved, people got married had their own families etc. So now its pretty rare to be able to get the majority of family together, but we will always have those memories :)

Thanks for the reminder sis
Blessings *hug*

Cool thread simply. :)

The one tradition I can remember from my childhood was my grandma always made a big pot of brown beans on Sundays. She was a poor woman. Had 12 grown children and about 2 dozen grandchildren, widowed and lived 10 miles from town with no vehicle. If her government check came in and she found a way to town she would buy a ham bone to put in the pot. That was a special treat. I remember one time I got a piece of ham because she grabbed a bowl for me before anyone else could get all the meat.

We would watch Jimmy Swaggart (spelling?) afterward. Well some would try to listen to him over me pounding on Grandmas piano. lol Sometimes I'd stop and listen to he talk about this man Jesus and I'd ask questions and grandma would get so excited when she spoke of him. I know it was her hearts desire that her grandchildren would accept Christ.

Grandma did what she could with her lack of resources to get Jesus into the ones she could.

*hug* Everyone

Those are some really wonderful sounding traditions. :)

One tradition that I can remember having when I was a small child, was with my great grandmother. I would go and spend one afternoon a week with her and she and I would string buttons, making necklaces out of them. She would take the ones that I made her and would wear them around her house, and every time I would come the following week, she would take out the last week's necklace and say to me, "well what colors and styles of buttons will you make me this week to wear so that my jewelry can be even more beautiful then the last ones you made me?" I would just laugh and give her a huge hug and she would always kiss my cheek and tell me that no one could make her more beautiful jewelry then I could. She always smiled at my necklaces and I know now that she only wore them out of love for me, and she in turn made me feel special because I made her feel that way each week when I always would take the time to spend with her, even as I grew up and became older, before she passed away, her and I would still try and get together for talks, smiles, and card games or yahtzee games. We even strung a few button necklaceses for old time sake. She always had time for me, and I will always treasure those memories of her smile. Her gentle hand upon my cheek after she placed my buttons upon her neck.

It is so precious the little things we all take for granted, so if everyone can just take one moment out of the day to just tell someone else just how much they are appreciated and loved, so many more smiles could be seen in this world, when so many tears of pain are shed, just a second can change those tears of pain into tears of joy.

Have a blessed day and evening in the Lord,

Sincerely,

Breezy
