Christianity Oasis Forum

This forum is for those souls 18 years and older who are dealing with some type of addictive behavior whether it be from alcohol, drugs, overeating, fear, worry, sex, etc. Only with help and guidance from God can we ever hope to overcome these addictions. What is impossible for us to do IS POSSIBLE with God. Friends and family of those stricken with addictions are welcome to share as this problem affects more than just the soul entangled in its web.

sobriety works

Postby follower_of_Jesus » Sun Sep 02, 2007 2:09 am

my life as a drug and alcohol abuser started at a very young age maybe like 12 or 13 and as the years went on it only got worst
before i knew it i found myself using cocaine and heroine very regular.
my life had gotten away from me i was a very bad addict.
in 1991 I moved far away to another state where i didn't know anyone or where to get any drugs. and I sweated it out
It wasn't long before I started drinking again, I had convinced myself as long as I wasn't using drugs I had recovered. now realalisticly all I did was cover one problem with another problem. it got really bad and spent another 16 years drinking very heavy and smoking pot.
I thought there was no way I could ever be happy being totaly straight.
all I did was hurt everyone around me until nobody wanted to be around me anymore and found myself very alone.
until this past new years eve when I got so drunk I slammed my car into a concrete culvate.
A few days later I called the hot line for alcoholics annyomous and started going to meetings and also found this web site christianity oasis.

God blessed me and has continued to bless me during my time of sobriety
I just celebrated 8 months sober and the thing is I never thought I could be this happy sober... wow it's amazing what prayer can do for someone
you just have to have faith and he will bless you...

for those of you who are new to the AA/NA program hang in there you will find happiness sober.
thanks for listening yall it really helps me to tell my story

Yes sobriety does work. Whatever we are addicted to, and realize that we are in bondage to whatever it is., whatever we crave, or put in front of God's will,Then we begin to get better. We must surrender each day. No human power can relieve of of these of these sufferings. God could and would if He were sought.
I used to go to people to get answers and for them to tell me I was ok or to make me feel better. The ones that truly care are the ones that will tell you the TRUTH and are true friends even though it may hurt at the time.
I have found out that this way of life is not easy sometimes and that I have to walk by faith and not FEELINGS.
Being the sensitive person I am, I have to rely on God and not others. I am not here to win a popularity contest, But to help those who WANT help. I have had say to me that I did not have enough compassion, but the truth is I care more than you'll ever know. I have to be careful and not say what Real wants but what God wants. A true friend is one who will rebuke his brother because he cares for them.
At any rate, thanks for sharing FOJ and as you told me , this helped you to share this. AMEN. Luv ya Bro. Real. *harp*
