Living in the Light

Postby kimberly » Thu Jun 05, 2008 4:21 pm

When I was young, I was afraid of the dark. Were you? My mom would leave a hall light or bathroom light on, and the bedroom door open so we could see the light.

If I would wake up in the wee hours, the light would be off.....and terror would creep into my insides. I would actually (now I know you will laugh), squeeze my eyes shut so I wouldn't see the darkness.

As an adult, I told myself the norm....there's nothing there, it's just darkness. Dark can't hurt me. But until I was saved, I didn't know any peace about darkness.

Darkness was the same as fear to me.....darkness symbolized everything that WAS fear in me. There was a deep, wide vein of fear in my spirit....it was in the dark.

Then, I met Jesus. If there isn't any other reason to study the bible, there is this: it shines a light on fear, and makes it wither up. Studying brought me across this verse:

Isaiah 9:2
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great Light; those who dwelt in the land of intense darkness and the shadow of death, upon them has the Light shined

I thought, "That's ME! The light shines on ME! I'm not in darkness anymore!" .......from then on, darkness began to shrink away out of my life, as the fear of the unknown stopped being a focal point in my life.

John 1:4
In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men...........I didn't live in fear of darkness or death, it didn't have anything to do with me anymore! I was a partner in the Light and Life that was Jesus....living in me.

John 1:5
And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].

1 John 1:5
And this is the message [the message of promise] which we have heard from Him and now are reporting to you: God is Light, and there is no darkness in Him at all [ no, not in any way].

James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect ( free, large, full) gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of all [that gives] light, in [the shining of] Whom there can be no variation [rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [as in an eclipse].

Brothers and sisters, we carry light and life in us. We are not of darkness, and it can't overpower God light...... God light has no shadows of any kind....and that light exists in us! As the God light grows, fear shrinks....it can't stand up to the light.

The more I learned to search the Word for who I was, with Jesus living in my heart....the more I learned to live.

Thank You Father, for the gift of light and life in Jesus Christ. His light outshines the darkness of fear. In Him, we live! In His name, amen.

"I wanna be in the Light
As You are in the Light
I wanna shine like the stars in the heavens
Oh, Lord be my Light and be my salvation
Cause all I want is to be in the Light
All I want is to be in the Light "
