Modelbuilder's Journal Day 2
I would like to earn my living from art work of various types. Prior to coming to this website I had unknowingly completed part of the requirement of Day 2 in that I surrounded myself with things that remind me of my purpose - it is the purpose that I would like it to be, and one that seems to have been confirmed by the Lord in a number of ways. Art has always been very important to me, when I was in grade school I was drawing every available moment in class and even when I was supposed to be doing something else a few times that I can remember. I have pieces of art that I have completed, works in progress, sketches of ideas, books on soft pastel, water colour and acrylic techniques. What does of any of this have to do with feeling emotions? Here is what came to me; there is a difference between technically well done and something that is good art. The former comes from practice and learning and the latter from an emotional connection and ability to express it. The technical artist always looks for the flaws and imperfections to root them out and thus making the work perfect while the connected artist understands that whatever he/she is attempting to express can incorporate flaws and imperfections - in short they are at peace with their work and that is something the technical artist very rarely is - as it could have always been done just a little better here and there. My dad told me when I was 9 - 10 years old that art and artists where one of the three most worthless things in life, and he also told that if I get everything right that I am supposed to do then God will help me with the rest. The first statement left me feeling worthless, what else would it let me feel, and the second left me out on my own as I never got close to getting everything right. I am not sure when I started building a wall around my heart but these two statement from my dad certainly contributed to choice, knowingly or unknowingly, to do so. I think in my life I have been happy and at peace with two or three renderings that I have completed, and I have dropped many projects as they were not turning out perfect. I need to transform from the technical artist to the connected artist.
