trying is good. :) It is much better than quitting. I once gave up and my pastor asked me to give it just 4 years of my times. But during this 4 years to pray for my spouse daily and to do all I could do to be everything God asks of me. I got a book called The Power of the Praying Wife and 3 years later I remembered that i had made this promise to give my marriage 4 years. I only had one more year till I was free and could choose to leave. But after a moment to examine it, I didn't want to leave anymore. Things had gotten better and I wanted to keep trying. I don't know your situation but I'd like to encourage you to keep trying :) and praying.

JESUS

Without Jesus and our belief in Him, we would have NEVER gotten together and gotten married. It is through our belief in Him that we make our marriage work (or I should say He makes it work)

Hmmm...maybe that was way too broad...

My second choice would be: trust
We hide nothing from each other and we can read each other pretty well. We really are bad at lying (well I am the WORST poker player EVER! Hubby is pretty good at poker but can't lie to my face EVER! I really can tell when he is lying rofl He is a terrible actor!). We know we have each other's best interest at heart for everything we do.

Friendship

In my eyes, no marriage can't last without it. You have to be friends, or else why would you be together? Friendship requires selflessness and mercy. All people who have friends can understand that their friends aren't perfect, but its because of who they and not what you can get from them, that makes friendships so special. Marriage is taking that to whole new level. Plus friendship cannot be geedy or selfish, because then any friendship won't last if all you in it for is to get something out of it. This is where I believe many marriages fail the way they do. Selfishness. It doesn't help that young people today see it almost as "taboo" to date, let alone marry your best friend. That's why memes such as "friend zoned" exists. It's sad to see. So, in my opinion, friendship is foundation/groundwork of any marriage, Christian or not (divorce rates are the same in both circles, believers or not). If you can't be friends, your marriage won't last.
