The CHRISTmas Letter

Postby Leaps4Joy » Mon Dec 10, 2007 2:25 pm

The Christmas Letter

Ruth went to her mail box on Christmas Eve, and there was only one letter. She picked it up and looked at it before opening, but then she looked at the envelope again. There was no stamp, no postmark, only her name and address. She read the letter:
Dear Ruth:

I'm going to be in your neighborhood this Christmas and I'd like to stop by for a visit.

Love Always,
Jesus

Ruth's hands were shaking as she placed the letter on the table. "Why would the Lord want to visit me? I'm nobody special. I don't have anything to offer." With that thought, Ruth remembered her empty kitchen cabinets.

"Oh my goodness, I really don't have anything to offer. It's already Christmas Eve and the stores will be closing. I'll have to run down out and buy something for dinner right away." She reached for her purse and counted out its contents. Five dollars and forty cents.

"Well, I can get some bread and cold cuts, at least." She threw on her coat and hurried out the door. A loaf of French bread, a half-pound of sliced turkey, and a carton of milk...leaving Ruth with grand total of twelve cents to last her until next week. Nonetheless, she felt good as she headed home, her meager offerings of a Christmas dinner tucked under her arm.

"Hey lady, can you help us, lady?" Ruth had been so absorbed in her dinner plans, she hadn't even noticed two figures huddled in the alleyway. A man and a woman, both of them dressed in little more than rags.

"Look lady, I ain't got a job, ya know, and my wife and I have been living here on the street, and, well, now it's getting cold and we're getting kinda hungry and, well, it's Christmas Eve, if you could help us, lady, we'd really appreciate it."

Ruth looked at them both. They were dirty, they smelled bad and, frankly, she was certain that they could get some kind of work if they really wanted to.

"Sir, I'd like to help you, but I'm a poor woman myself. All I have is a few cold cuts and some bread, and I'm having an important guest for Christmas and I was planning on serving that to Him."

"Yeah, well, okay lady, I understand. Thanks anyway". The man put his arm around the woman's shoulders, turned and headed back into the alley as a gentle snow began to fall. As she watched them leave, Ruth felt a familiar twinge in her heart.

"Sir, wait!" The couple stopped and turned as she ran down the alley after them. Look, why don't you take this food. I'll figure out something else to serve my guest." She handed the man her grocery bag.

"Thank you lady. Thank you very much!" "Yes, thank you!"

Ruth could see now that the woman was shivering.

"You know, I've got another coat at home. Here, why don't you take this one." Ruth unbuttoned her jacket and slipped it over the woman's shoulders. Then smiling, she turned and walked back to the street .... without her coat and with nothing to serve her guest.

"Thank you lady! Thank you very much! .... and Merry Christmas!"

Ruth was chilled by the time she reached her front door, and worried too. The Lord was coming to visit and she didn't have anything to offer Him. She fumbled through her purse for the door key. But as she did, she noticed another envelope in her mailbox.

"That's odd. The mailman doesn't usually deliver on Christmas Eve."

She took the envelope out of the box and opened it.

Dear Ruth:

It was so good to see you again. Thank you for the lovely Christmas dinner. And thank you, too, for the beautiful coat.

Love Always,
Jesus

The air was still cold, and the snow was falling even harder, but even without her coat, Ruth no longer noticed. She had soon realized that the man and his wife were Jesus and soon realized that Jesus can do anything and taht nothing is impossible for him.

A life forever changed

Postby --- » Tue Dec 11, 2007 10:33 pm

"So Lexi, watcha doing tonight for christmas eve?" my
friend Logan asked me
"Are you serious? Nothing probably, my dad'll be out all night with his buddies and my moms gonna be locked up in her room probably all night." I said.
"Bummer. Lexi whats been up with your family lately?" he asked me.
"I really don't want to talk about it." I said quietly.
there was an awkward silence for a minute but after a second he said, "Alex you been ok lately?"
I didn't answer.
"Alex whats wrong?" he asked again with a pleading tone in his voice.
"Nothing." I said. I stubbornly wiped away the tears in the corners of my eyes, glad that Logan couldn't see them.
"Hey why don't you come over tonight Lexi? We're not gonna be doing anything big but maybe after dinner we can watch movies and pop popcorn. I don't like the thought of you alone tonight, I mean after all it is
Christmas Eve." Logan said
"Ok... I guess I'll be over later." I said.
"Ok well come over whenever you want, its not formal so whenever is good." he said.
"Alright well I'll see you then." I said before hanging up the phone.
I laid in my bed for a few minutes before I finally got up and changed my clothes, nothing fancy but good enough for dinner. I walked out into our living room, surprise surprise no one was home.
I walked outside into the cold air and stuck my hands in my jacket pockets.
I started walking, where I was going I don't know but I didn't care.
Tears ran down my cheeks, I hated my life! I can't stand this! why is life so hard? how can anyone be expected to do this on their own?
I looked up and saw the old bridge and a sudden thought hit me.
"NO NO ALEX!!! NO, don't think about it don't do it." a voice whispered in my head.
I already found myself moving towards it and before I knew it I had climbed up the stairs and was looking down at the cars underneath me. I climbed out onto the ledge and balanced myself so I wouldn't fall.
No one even noticed that a young girl was about to end her life forever.
I started to burst out in tears and broke down, "I can't do this!!! I can't. No one cares, no one even hears me at night when I cry, my parents are so messed up and I'm turning out to be like them. My parents always yell at me for messing up so much and I don't have anyone.... no one cares. NO one cares." I said to myself over and over.
"Do it, just do it." I shouted into my head.
"What are you doing here?" a voice whispered behind me.
I turned back, and saw a man standing behind me.
"What are you doing here?" he asked again softly.
I didn't answer and my voice shook as I tried to talk.
"Whats your name?" he asked me, his eyes full of compassion.
"Alex." I said with tears falling down my eyes.
"Alex, give me your hand." he said holding out his hand to me.
I shook my head, "No, there's nothing to live for, I dont want to do it anymore! no I dont want to anymore... I can't"
"Alex give me your hand, please. YOU are worth something, your life is worth something. No matter what your feeling right now, with your parents or with anyone else, no matter what amount of pain is hurting
you right now, Jesus loves you." he said
I looked at him, "What...?"
"Jesus loves you Alex, there is MORE than this. Give me your hand please, trust me." he said. I looked into his eyes and for once it seemed like maybe there was hope.... I don't know why but I took
his hand. he pulled me off the ledge and sat down next to me.
"Whats hurting you so bad inside Alex?" he asked me softly.
I started talking to him about everything with my parents and myself and everything.
He seemed understanding and finally he said, "Alex there is a way out of this."
I looked up at him, "How?! I dont know if I can."
"Alex there IS a way." he said.
"How...." I stuttered.
"Jesus is real. Alex, he sacrificed his own life for you, he loves you. Trust him its the only way to get out of this pain. He understands how badly your hurting and he understands you feel like you have no
one else to turn to, He cares." he said.
I looked down and I started thinking. I was gonna ask him something else but when I looked up he was gone.
I looked around but didn't see him anywhere.
I looked up at the stars in the nighttime sky, "Jesus I give my life to you tonight, please save me Jesus. I can't do it anymore. my heart is breaking and I'm lost God. Help me please... I know you died for me and I
know I'm a sinner. God I can't do it please come into
my life, save me God...." I closed my eyes tightly and whispered, "In Jesus name I pray amen."
I looked up and for once in my life felt like I was worth something, for once in my life felt like this life wasn't as messed up as it seemed, that there was hope.
I started walking and I got off the bridge, I looked back and decided never again would this happen.
I rang the doorbell to my friends house and he
answered right away.
I couldnt keep from smiling. he studied me and finally laughed, "Ok you know what I give up somethings different about you but I dont know what. I havent seen you smile in a long time, what happened to you?"
I smiled and started to tell him about this christmas miracle, Jesus changed my life and I wanted to tell everyone!
He smiled and hugged me so tightly. "Lexi I knew something was wrong with you tonight, I prayed to God to send an angel to protect you and help you tonight."
I looked at him in awe, "R u serious?"
He nodded, "Yep."
I smiled, "wow.... so God really does listen to us. why me?"
He smiled a little, "you know Lexi thats exactly what I thought when I became a christian, I thought, why me? But Jesus showed me I wasn't trash and that life is special."
I looked at him in awe, "I never knew you thought that way."
He laughed, "I'm not perfect I got problems just like you just they're not as severe."
I nodded and my eyes filled with wonder, my parents were walking up the steps to the house.
"Uh... do you think they're mad that your over here?" Logan asked me.
I shrugged but inside my heart was pounding
My mother ran up to me and hugged me.
I looked over at Logan surprised, "Mom whats wrong?"
"Oh Lexy I'm so sorry please forgive me baby, I'm so sorry." she said breaking down into tears.
"Mom its ok.... dont cry."
but that only made her cry harder.
I looked over at my dad, "Dad... I thought.."
but he stopped me, "No Lexy I'm gonna try to stop.... I'm sorry baby. I didn't want to be this type of a father I'm sorry Lexi."
whats going on? I whispered under my breath
Logan smiled at me, "So Jesus really did preform a christmas miracle, he saved the life of my best friend... and he's helping with other things too."
I laughed and tears of joy streamed down my cheeks, "Thank you God!"

Family traditions

Postby bonbon1 » Mon Dec 17, 2007 9:56 pm

This story goes back as far as I can remember,

looking back over the years our family tradition
was to all gather on Christmas eve

make giant pots of tamales, mexician chocolate ,and
serve sweet bread.

pinatas for the kids, a bag full of goodys for us kids

we would stay up till midnight. so tired from all the excitement

once midnight hit my mom would place baby Jesus in the manger all of us on our knees and pray a rosary it aways seem so repeative
afther she was done she would pass baby Jesus around to give him a kiss she said so he would bless us

I aways felt strange doing that as the years went bye everything changed my brother and sister had changed I have changed my mother had changed she was a reborn Christian now everyone could not understand why she no longer prayed the rosary
J
See every year the baby Jesus was given to a person who she felt fit to have him some would get angry because they didn't receive him. one year she gave him to me i aways look at it as its just a doll treated like an idol

That next year my mom became sick with cancer i hand it over to my got rid of the baby Jesus handed over to my sister and told her i hand you this so you can figure out is this what you worship a doll it still still sit bye her fire place she didn't catch the vision my mom taught me that god is not a figure of porcelain he lives in our hearts not in a object well some of my family still sticks with that triton but not I its been about 10 years sense i stop that tradition no need for it because go lives in me.
