Does God give us more than we can handle?
I hear Christians constantly saying God will never give you more than you can handle. Personally I disagree with that. God will obviously never give you more than he can handle and he will always carry you through your times of troubles and despair but as far as never giving you more than you can handle yourself I disagree with, for a couple reasons. One is there would be no need for faith if we always were able to take care of our problems our self without having to lean on him for help. You see people are like little children who are just starting to learn to walk. They begin to be independent and with their new found independence they begin to get prideful which brings us to the second reason why I disagree with this saying of God not ever giving us more than we can handle.
When a baby is born they are completely in the need to depend entirely on their parents for everything. They can’t eat without their parents to feed them, they can’t go anywhere without mom or dad putting them where they want to be. They want to play in the play pin their parents would have to put them in the pin to play. If they want to swing then they would have to be placed in the swing but when they get to be roughly around 2 years old give or take, they begin to learn to walk and control their spoon while learning to feed them selves. With this newly developed skill they begin to become independent walking where they want to go on their own without the help of mom or dad. How ever with this new independence they have found they also get prideful for now they not only can do what they want without help, they now insist on doing it themselves. Have you ever had a child want a bottle of milk when they get tired and so when you begin to prepare the bottle for them to take a nap they scream at you for preparing it when they themselves want to prepare it so when you try to give them the bottle after you prepared it they reject it and throw themselves on the ground and scream in a fit. They best thing you can do is let them try to prepare it by putting the bottle at their level and let them try to take the gallon of milk and fill the bottle on their own. With the milk weighing almost half their body weight you know they can’t pour the milk in the bottle without making a big mess but you need to let them learn. After they make a mess and feel really bad they will then humble themselves to you and let you make the bottle and also they will turn to you to clean the mess they made. You must let them do this to break that pride they have of needing to do everything themselves.
Pride is only broken when you get into a situation that is above your capability to get out of and you have to rely on someone else to take care of it.
Like a child we are prideful and independent and like a child we must be humbled in order to allow God to take care of our needs and fix our mistakes.

Re: Does God give us more than we can handle?
Hello GodsSheep
God bless you this day.
Thank you for sharing what is on your heart -- God has given you an interesting and blessed understanding. I notice, frequently, your wisdom coming forth in regards to children. Awesome!!!
I think we humans sometimes do take scripture out of context and apply it in ways not intended by God. But, He is good to correct us if we truly want to know Truth and apply it correctly. Thank You Jesus \o/ \o/ \o/
I think one of the reasons so many people make that statement "God will not give you more than you can handle" is because of the following scripture:
I Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, Who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
And as we read in context, it does not just say God won't give us more than we can handle, but says He won't allow us to be tempted beyond measure without also giving us a way of escape. God is so very Good!!!
Wooooooohoooooo!!!
Thank you again, GodsSheep.
God bless and keep you.
Love,
Mack

Re: Does God give us more than we can handle?
Hi Mack,
You speak of my references to children when looking at the relationship between us and God and you are very correct. I have learned over the last 5 or 6 years to see God the way I see him today, and in order to do that you have to stop and study the relationship between us and our children. EVERYTHING that we can learn as far as who God is and what our relationship is with him can be simply taught by looking no where else other than our own lives and relationship between us and our own children.
You can learn a lot about our own pride by watching our children. We can learn a lot about leaning on love and understanding and know when we need to learn to lean on God most by watching our children. You can even learn to understand why bad things happen in our lives and how God responds to them by watching our own children.
Honestly our children are our biggest and most perfect teacher in understanding our father in heaven, our relationship to him. They are the perfect teacher in understanding the bible and they never even read it. They know the bible better than any scalar with a degree in biblical understanding any where in the world. Their actions live it and prove it.

Re: Does God give us more than we can handle?
hello my brother and sister in Jesus
Wow...what an awesome thread...and, I agree. There have been soooo many instances in my life where I have been burdened with absolutely more than I could handle. I was left with no choice but to lean on Jesus, His strength, and His grace to pull me through. The alternative would have been to just lie down and die...even if it was in my own emotions and pain. The Holy Spirit has often brought this scripture to mind when I asked Him about dealing with more than I could bare and He gave me the same understanding...that He would not leave me in temptation without providing a way out. I believe, too, that the trials and tribulations in this life are allowed, in part, to humble us and bring back to mind that we need Him in everything.
God bless you guys. Love this thread!
in Jesus,
