Ever deal with Jealousy?

Postby chrisday » Mon Oct 10, 2011 1:06 am

I have had a problem for awhile where I don't feel I am unique enough to stand out so when someone else has a talent/blessing I find it hard for myself to be happy for them.

How would you deal with this destructive emotion?

Hi Chris
First welcome to the Oasis, as for you not feeling unique enough I kinda know how you feel, I always felt as if I was never as good as everyone else or if I did ANYTHING I could have done it better or someone else would have done better
I can also say I have felt the feelings of "why them and not me" or "don't I deserve to be happy too"
but I sometimes.....only sometimes  realize I am not being thankful to God for all He has given me weather it is the blessings I see others getting as well or the trials that I go through.
When I was young my mother raised me on her own and provided well for me on what she had but at the times I hated it I felt as if I deserved to have the nice stuff other kids had and eat the kind of foods a kid wants not bean soup or corn beef hash or tuna cassarole, and my dad told me when I was a teen "I ain't helping you in any way get a car......MAN I had it SOOOOOO bad.....not really, I learned some very hard but great lessons from all this, I learned to appreciate all that I had and was given but I also learned to appreciate all I worked for too, you see I NEVER EVER went without food and when my dad said that it just gave me the drive to prove I could do this myself and I bought my first car myself (and it was a junker BUT I loved it because I did it myself) and now I'm older I see things that I tend to be thankful for that I know had it not been for those lessons I would care less.....and I love a good bowl of soup beans or even tuna cassarole now too

Brother it is just satan doing what he does best, just stop and think how would it help you feel any better for this person to not have it either, I can't sing a lick but I love to listen to others sing even though I would love to be able to sing like one of them, I can't draw but I hate when I see some one else that can.....but don't, you see we ALL yes ALL have a God given talent and it may be something WAYYYYY off from what we want BUT we must ask Him to show us what it is HE wants from us lead us to do what it is that He put us here to do (besides the ultimate reason- leading others to Him)
Take jobs for example....custodian.....yuck!!! who wants that job.....off and on I have about 25 or so years in this field and I know now that is what I do best, I have worked in a lot of different places including Mr Dave Thomas's office the owner from wendy's fast food and met him to see a man that was worth more money than my family has ever seen but one of the most humble men you ever met, and started with NOTHING....wow
I also worked in a place that at the time there where only 2 of them ANYWHERE in the world and I worked in one of them and it was a state of the art training facility for doctors and nurses....it since has changed the way they are now trained and this place was super COOL and so was the people there.
BUT my biggest point of why I told you of what I do for a living......not so nice of a job...pay stinks.....goes nowhere but that's what I'm good at is cleaning and floor refinishing....but could you see this world without people like me......YUCK!!!
We ALL have our purpose, stop worring about the other guy and what he has that you don't and ask God to show you what He wants from you BUT be prepared
Sorry it was so long but I hope you see You ARE unique in Gods eyes and we are supposed to trust in Him sooooo you ARE UNIQUE!!!!
May God bless you brother

Wonderful letter from CUC!

There are so many verses that come to mind. Don't collect treasure where it can rot and rust, but collect it in heaven.

We are the body of Christ. And if we were all feet, how would we hear? And if we are all eyes, how would we walk?

Anyway - obviously I rephrased a lot.

Why is the stuff important to you right now? I imagine there is a reason. Who taught you that stuff is important? Were your parents envious? Did kids at school make a big deal about brands? My kids were reverse snobs for quite a while - refused to wear name brands. I do think it is silly to pay extra for a brand unless there is a reason. I usually buy Nike's because they have done well for me in the past and shoes are important to the foot's bone structure. But brand name jeans? Forget it. $500 purses? I cannot even imagine.

I lived in a neighborhood that thought it was hotsy-totsy, and I found them to be annoying. We had to get permission to fence in a little portion of our yard for our dogs. If we had wanted to change our house, we would have had to ask permission and have the design approved. The people were nice enough, it is the concept that we didn't like. When you play be snobby rules, you have a lot less freedom.

I know it is a lot nicer to not have to worry about where the money is going to come from for the next bills - I would like to get to that spot again - ohhh, I am in that spot, no matter what it looks like to the outsider, because GOD is my sufficiency. That doesn't allow me to run my charge cards up to the max or be irresponsible. But, it is an important point.

All that money stuff puts the rich in the same scary "not enough of it" spot as the poor. And they have even more pressure. If you can't be happy where you are - you won't be happy there either.

If God IS your sufficiency, then you can be happy right where you are. And confident. And if you are focusing on God, and what YOU can do for others, well, then you won't be focusing on the stuff that other people have.

I know it is a challenge, but it is a worthy goal.
Hugs,
Dema

Thank you sis, I had to look up the verse you brought up...PERFECT!!!
1Corinthians 12:12
Chris if you are not familiar with this verse PLEASE look it up and pray on it
or NO one wants to do the task at hand.....no pun intended *BigGrin*
I love this one, it really hits home when some in the church insist they have to do it all and no one else should *dunno*
ever try to see God's blessings with your eyes closed, or touch a friend in a time of need with no hands *BigGrin*
We are ALL put here to be in a place for a purpose, problem is we want it to be our purpose instead of His

Dema I don't know how you do it, I have seen those places and I don't know that I could live there, you have to ask permission to paint colors- fence yards- some even grilling is out- kids not allowed to play out front
I'm sorry but if I pay for it I WILL use it!! I do understand the idea behind it though is to keep the area's uniform and neat but I think some take it too far.
May God bless you both

Awesome responses here...whooohooooo!

I just gotta add...you are unique. *BigGrin* Seems you have to trust what He says. His gifts are given for His glory..to be used to reach out to people, to teach, to sing to, to minister to, whatever He gives you, to further His kingdom. Ask the Lord to show you how He wants to use you.....He created you to be used in the way only you can be used. Look for your gifts....ask Him to show you....and to lead you.

In Jesus,
luv momo *Halo*
