Saturday 23 April
12:20 PM- Soda Farl Toasted with Butter
2:40 PM- Plum
3:30 PM- 6 Crackers, Cheese, Radishes, Cucumber Slices, Coleslaw
6:50 PM- Breaded Chicken Patty, 5 Onion Rings, Carrot and Suede, Roasted Peppers and Mushrooms in Sweet Chilli Sauce
10:00 PM- Apple, Cinnamon Disc, Spoonful of Ice Cream
11:30 PM- Banana
1:45 AM- 1/2 Soda Farl Toasted with Butter, 1/2 Cup of Raisins
Throughout the Day- 3 Litres of Water

Working in that youth centre is torturous!!! Kids offering to buy me ice cream when they go to the shop or bringing in a gravy chip and offering to share. That doesn't even include the temptations of the fully stocked tuck shop upstairs...a killer on night that is dragging. Getting through tonight took almost every ounce of willpower I had...and that was willpower fortified by a bite of ice cream!!

Sunday 24 April
10:50 AM- 1 Cup of Cereal with Milk, Plum
2:20 PM- 1/2 Personal Pizza
5:45 PM- Black Cherry Yogurt
9:45 PM- Banana
11:45 PM- 1/2 Personal Pizza
Throughout the Day- 2 LItres of Water

Today was a crazy day in many ways. All evening I felt like I was being pulled in so many directions. We held our monthly youth service tonight...a huge turnout. It was brilliant! But it was tough not to stray...I am the one responsible for all the refreshments...that was a lot of biscuits and crisps to pass up!

I noticed something that concerned me a little today. I have been working hard to change my eating...especially the senseless snacking, but I know my personality. I know how quickly I can take it to the extreme. I also know how legalistic I can be. I saw that creep in today. I was starving at one point, but I was at work so the only option was a biscuit. I opted for nothing. In the bigger picture of my whole day, would a chocolate biscuit have hurt? No. But I wouldn't allow myself to eat it. I feel myself slipping to the other extreme...as much as I failed to control what went in my mouth before, I am becoming hypervigilant now. I want to be healthier, not just have a new obsession. I have only been at this a week...I don't want it to become such a burden that I quit.

I have decided to check the scales on Sundays....three pounds off from last week. The scales were my friend today.

That is such a good point you brought up, sis ...

Once you have issues with eating, it's difficult to correct yourself (it just is). We think that the only way to "fix" ourselves is to do the exact opposite of what we are doing (ie: overeating is bad, therefore i'm not going to eat; or if eating lots of fat is bad, i'm gonna only eat veggies). Sounds logical, right? Wrong! Think of it like driving a car. You make a sharp turn, but how do you correct the car into going straight after the turn is complete? Do you turn the wheel sharply the other way? Of course not! It's finding that "balance" everyone talks about. With smoking you can do the opposite: you either smoke or you don't. With drinking you can do the opposite: you either do it or you don't. Food, however, you can't quit it.

But girl, at least you recognize this. You hear me? You recognize it! And you can start to teach yourself how to find the healthy medium of eating until satisfied and eating the right things until satisfied.

Praying for you! *hug*

12:30 AM- 4 Crackers with Peanut Butter
3:55 AM- 2 Kimberley's
Throughout the Day: 2.5 Litres of Water, 4 Fruit Pastilles

I was traveling over the last three days and staying at a friend's home...I realise how much control that takes away from you in many regards. Where possible I tried to split meals with Claire. I allowed her to buy the chocolate bars and I snitched a bite. I still don't know how I feel about the Diet Coke. I could suck that stuff down by the gallon...but until today I haven't had more than a swallow in three and a half weeks. Never have I gone that long. But today it came with the meal, Claire already had a drink, and I figured that a small one every few weeks can't hurt too much. I should probably be far more worried about the ice cream and the Chinese I had the day before! Let's just hope none of this set me back too far. Tomorrow..back to the veggies!

Almost two weeks in and it finally happened....every morning my weight has dropped a bit, but not today. Stayed just about the same, maybe a hair above. I did not throw the scales out the window...though I am sure they snickered at me. My initial thought was to skip the majority of eating today...but I know that won't be helpful in the long run. I have to keep in mind that this isn't about the day to day, but the long term...with that in mind, breakfast is sitting happily in my tummy.

Saturday 30 April
10:10 AM- 1 Cup of Cereal with Milk, Plum
1:00 PM- Butternut Squash Soup, Wheaten, Small Roll
4:00 PM- Banana
5:00 PM- Sour Cream and Chive Mini Rice Cakes
6:15 PM- Lasagna, Shepherd's Pie, Pasta Bake (no, not three full servings...just a bit of each), Garlic Bread, Salad, Apple Tart
12:00 AM- Apple
Throughout the Day- 2.5 Litres of Water, M&M's (I was feeling soooo tired when I bought these..thought they might help perk me up)

I don't think the scales are going to be my friend again tomorrow. The candy probably just put it over the top, but I do have to say I was pleasantly surprised. That packet of M&M's lasted about four hours. I had no desire to just eat them down. I even contemplated saving the other half of the bag for another time, but then the evening ran on longer so that plan went out the window.

**The sour candy sticks are a new product in the tuck shop at the youth centre...had to do a quality control test, right?!

I was kind of pleased with myself at dinner tonight. I had made the mac and cheese yesterday and put the leftovers in the fridge. I heated it up today, but when I went to put it on the plate it was waaaaaay more than I wanted/needed. My initial thought was that I needed to eat it all. This was mac and cheese that someone had brought me from the states because I can't get it here. I couldn't waste such a precious commodity! But I realised that trying to put it all away and then feeling guilty that I had really wasn't worth it. I left a portion of it on the plate and it went in the bin. For the girl who was taught to clean her plate, to not waste...that was major. I have gotten to the point where I can sometimes leave food on the plate in a restaurant, but not so much at home yet. It seems strange since there is no one to offend at home since I cooked it, but that is how it is.

I am still fighting the urge to eat when I am not hungry. But I AM fighting it..and generally winning. The times I do give in, I try to keep it to a minimum instead of going on that mad search to find that "thing" that I am craving. I think I have eaten more fruit in the last four weeks than I have in almost the last year! And sadly, that is only a very slight exaggeration. As for vegetables, I was hardly eating those at all.
