On a Mission With God

Postby realtmg » Sun May 23, 2010 11:41 am

Then the Spirit said to Philip, "Go near and overtake this chariot." (Acts 8:29)

Missions is God finding those whose hearts are right with Him and placing them where they can make a difference for His kingdom. Some of the great missionaries in history did not live long lives, but their lives dramatically affected eternity.

God had access to Philip, and the Book of Acts gives the exciting account of how God used Philip's life to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. Philip was preaching powerfully in the city of Samaria (Acts 8:5). So mightily did God use him that the entire city was rejoicing at the miracles God was doing (Acts 8:6 8). This would be any evangelist's fondest desire, to see an entire city responding to the gospel through his preaching. Yet Philip was not activity-centered in his Christian life. He was God-centered. Philip was not preoccupied with expanding his reputation as a great preacher or miracle worker, he was concerned that his life remain in the center of God's activity. When he was instructed to leave his fruitful ministry, he did not hesitate (Acts 8:27).

God continues to seek those as responsive as Philip to go on mission with Him. The reason God has not brought great revival to more places is not that He is unable or that He is unwilling. He first looks for those willing to have their lives radically adjusted away from their self-centered activities and placed into the center of God's activity around the world. Have you seen the activity of God around you? What is God presently inviting you to do? How are you responding?
This will help overcome.

Thank you Real for this reminder to us to center ourselves on the face of Jesus and not ourselves.

As my cancer treatment has ended I am looking to our Heavenly Father to direct me to what he would have me to do.
Right now I am going to start visiting shut-ins and elderly who are home during the day. (I don't drive at night due to my seizures)
My first visitation is with a couple who are dear friends of mine but both have many health problems and my friend Dee is bed ridden. Her husband Ron has two bad knees and cannot be operated on until he loses 100 lbs.
They are depressed and have turned down people from church coming to visit. But they want me to come.
Please pray for them and pray that God would use me as His vessel as I visit with them.

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
(2 Corin. 1:3)

I am trying to hold onto this verse today. I went and put flowers on my family cemetery plot. Which includes my Dad & Mom and my Hubby.
Today I spent the morning crying and praying. Praying that God will comfort me during this time. I am depressed.
Please pray this does not hinder my visitation tomorrow.

I know people prayed yesterday. The depression did not last. I felt your prayers. It shows how important it is to share our short comings with other Christians. In our human nature we are apt to not want to share it because it will look like we are weak. But guess what?? We are all weak!
Even the Christians who might turn their noses down at you when they find out what you are battling. They are battling something too and our Heavenly Father knows all about it.

"It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes."
(Psalms 119:72)

"Lift up your eyes, discouraged one,
The Lord your help will be;
New strength will come from Him who said,
"For rest, come unto Me."
(author unknown)

God bless You

A great post here.

Sylvia i'm just seeing this post and Sis my prayers are we you and the families you go an visit. May your journey with the Lord be an awesome one.

Have thoughts to this...

"He first looks for those willing to have their lives radically adjusted away from their self-centered activities and placed into the center of God's activity around the world. Have you seen the activity of God around you? What is God presently inviting you to do? How are you responding?"

Some really bad things happened over the last couple of months and it took its tole, and still awaiting to see the outcome of it all. During this time though. The Lord spoke and gave me an awesome little revelation, made me feel safe cause i knew He was watching over me. Then the Lord did not allow me to make a move i would have taken and hurt a lot of people mainly that of my kids. Then the Lord showed me He had my back, then He showed me how He was literally present during the heaviest part of the storm after begging Him to go before me. Now that i'm gradually getting back into my studies and stuff, now the Lord has placed me temporarily with a small group of a dozen or more people that has had some trouble with struggles much the same struggles as i've gone through, and they are trying to seek the Lord and is so eager to hear about Jesus and how He truly cares for them. Some of them are struggling to trust but want something or someone to trust in but are scared to take that leap. But seem to have a couple that are ready to try stepping forward in faith.

It's so much fun to share Jesus with others. :)

Though my recent struggles are not over i'm really hoping the heaviest part of the storm is past. Being on a mission with God sure helps and is a great blessing.

And the really awesome part of it all, is Jesus does this for all us who look to and seek Him.

Love ya all
