Question about Noah

Postby Dora » Sat Apr 24, 2010 8:15 pm

Gen 6:9 says....
These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

What does it mean that Noah was perfect in his generations?

Only Jesus was perfect.

heya pinesters *hug*

i did a search on Noah in the new testament to see how the apostles spoke of Noah...

Hebrews 11:7
By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

1 Peter 3:20
Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

2 Peter 2:5
And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

and then compared those to the new testament references on Abraham...

Romans 4:2
For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. 3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Romans 4:9
Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

Romans 4:12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised. 13
For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

Romans 4:16
Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

Appears to me that the faith that Noah had in God was accounted to him as righteousness, as it was to Abraham...so, maybe in his faith in God being counted as righteousness, the word perfect means righteousness by the faith he had..which the others in his generation didnt have?

looking forward to other's input here lol

love ya Pinesters.

in Jesus,

Love you too Momof3 *hug5*

Thank you for your response. I felt the same when I read this verse. That it wasn't that Noah was perfect but his faith in an evil generation was what this verse is describing.
