hi dmorrow
well this is one area i had stumbled with myself at first.
I was like what , u want me to do what?
but they did this and that and they hurt me etc etc, i want justice etc etc...
then is when a dear friend told me that forgiveness doesnt meant that when u forgive them it makes what they did ok, but rather it is moreso for myself to be able to move on and not be a prisoner to those feelings of biterness and anger that i held on to because of their offenses.
Forgiveness wasnt for them, it was to free myself of it and to move forward and leave all these things behind me.
HOpe this helps

unforgiveness is a hard one
like Jill said, you end up carrying this burden... picture a bag filled with all this unforgiveness that you keep carrying around with you, dragging you down...
this person or these people don't even know that you have this unforgiveness most times, this burden, so it continues to weigh you down, and they are not even effected by it, how can they be, they are not carrying it...
picture you releasing some of it to God... take a small one first and feel the weight lighten...
Now I want you to realize that the space that you just emptied, God can fill with something good, something from Him.
dmorrow, after I started forgiving people, I felt so free. It was amazing the difference. I was then also able to not be offended by the problems that came to me later on because I would forgive them before it began to fester in me.
I was even able to start blessing them asking God to forgive them and help them grow with Him.

It is better to light a candle then curse the darkness
No fear... just freedom

Hi Derek,
I too, struggled with forgiving someone for something i thought was unforgiveable..even to the point that God surly couldnt forgive them, either. Truth was that this person, in the eyes of Jesus, was a lost soul, like i was and just in need of a savior as i was. When i started asking the Lord how in the world could i forgive this person for what he had done, the Lord showed me that I didnt want this person to burn in hell for eternity for what he had done to me. it truly was a matter of laying down my pride that said beginning to ask the Lord to help me with His power to forgive..a decision to forgive and asking the Lord to not hold them accountable for my sake. Then it moved to asking the Lord to bless them. Then from there it went on to seeing what Christ had forgiven me for and knowing i had no right to hold someone accountable for anything when the Lord Himself was forgiving. After what the enemy had done through the people that crucified Him, He forgave..and He was so willing to forgive me, too. Bro, we ALL sin and we all hurt each other. that doesnt make it right..but the fact remains, we do. We are all in need of forgiveness. We are all in need of a saviour. Things we do are done because of sin in us..because the enemy is relentless in his work through other people and us too, if we let him. Start with asking the Lord to help you...bless them instead of cursing them and pray for them.
standing with you in this and praying with you as well.
in Jesus,
luv momo

Forgiving them is not for THEM, but for YOU and for Jesus. After all, Jesus forgave you. The real enemy is not the human that hurt you, but the devil who blindly led them into hurting one of Gods children.
Forgiveness is the key. It can be done. You'll be glad you chose to. When you don't forgive you carry this huge load on your shoulders and it interferes with relationships, even your relationship with the Lord. Choose to forgive for yourself, for the Lord, and for those around you.

Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, But faith looks up! Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly and trust in our Creator who loves us.

Hey Derek
Whenever someone tells me "I can't" I usually take it for granted that they tried first , or at least they were willing to give it a shot , ( that's how they found out that they "can't" right ? )
There were a couple of people in my life that I adamantly , down right refused to forgive , let alone try or be willing . But you know what ? , Like Deetu and Pine and everyone else that had gone through the process knows and are saying , the hurt and pain that everytime these "person(s)" came in the picture was causing me , was being reflected on the people that were around me in my life at the present , so , in other words , they were indirectly suffering from it as well .
So , at times it "seems" like its going to hurt if we go through the process of forgiving (which is , by the way a one shot deal) , but here's the thing , it's going to hurt even more and more often if we don't .
Like Pine said , we don't do it for them to feel better , or be happy , or having to like them , we do it to free ourselves from them , we're the ones who put the chains on ourselves , they probably don't even have a clue of what's going on , and they are going about their biz as if nothing had happened .
At least , if you can , ask the Lord for willingness to forgive and see what happens .
