Promises

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share a couple of things with you all tonight...

First I thank my Father for making it to a second year anniversary of my physical sobriety For those who have not read my testimony, my primary addiction is sexual. He has brought me so far from my old desires of the flesh and shown me that the body is truly His temple to be treated with pure LOVE and RESPECT. I have two other sobriety dates related to the addiction for I celebrate and praise God for the stepping stones He's provided towards total surrender.

Second, I wanted to share some devotional material I had put in my first journal after my start into recovery two years ago. It is from a chapter of the Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous organization (SLAA) and I had read the material on another Christian recovery site back at that time. This spoke to me deeply, as I interpret them as promises to myself and to God. Note these are from a secular group, however as with AA, NA and others, spirituality is a key to recovery. The interpretation for me of these promises is always from His Will! And while I'm not perfect and still struggle as every human does, it is comforting to you there in Hope in Him for the future!

They are called the Daytona Promises:

1. We will regain control of our lives. (I interpret thru God's control, amen?)

2. We will begin to feel dignity and respect for ourselves.

3. The loneliness will subside and we will begin to enjoy being alone.

4. We will no longer be plagued by an unceasing sense of longing.

5. In the company of family and friends, we will be with them in body, mind and spirit.

6. We will pursue interests and activities we desire for ourselves.

7. Love will be a committed thoughtful decision, rather than a feeling by which we are overwhelmed.

8. We will love and accept ourselves.

9. We will relate to others from a state of wholeness.

10 We will extend ourselves for the purpose of nuturing our own or another's spiritual growth.

11. We will make peace with our past and make amends to those we have hurt.

12. We will be thankful for what has been given us, what has been taken away, and what has been left behind.

Susi,, Congratulations on this victory. I know that God pulled you out of some near scrapes too. As you know, I live One Day At A Time in order to work these steps that are posted in this forum. I do not dwell in the past nor wish to shut the door on it.
When one has an addiction, we live one day at a time and your days have added up to years now. I also understand that this was not always easy for you. But I also know that you depended on God to help you. Will power just wont cut the mustard. It takes the power from our Gracious Maker. And I'm thankful that I can always go to Him.
If I'm living in His will for that day, my attitude is much more positive and I have a reason to carry on.
Again, Thanks for the post and I take my hat off to you. Keep up the good work and know that you are appreciated here. Luv ya. Real.

Awesome Susi! Reminds me of John 5:6 when Jesus asked the man who had an infirmity for 38 years "Wilt thou be made whole?"

He delivers us from addictions and from oppressions or anything else that pulls our attentions away from Him, and He transforms us. Is it our desire to be made whole? It is His desire.

Thank you for sharing Susi, so many will be blessed because it is His will.
