Discussion: The Movie Fireproof

Postby lizzie » Fri May 08, 2009 5:10 pm

I just wanted to open this thread for those who have seen the movie Fireproof, and for those who havent yet.

I just did a few weeks ago, and it was so awesome. I highly recommend it for singles and married folks alike.

Id like to ask those who did see it to please share your thoughts on it and whether you believe that the principles shared in the movie can truly work in the lives of those who are experiencing difficulties in their marriages or relationships. And was there anything in the relationship of the two main characters that you feel you can relate to your own relationship?

Looking forward to getting a nice discussion going here :) Will be back to share my own thoughts on the movie as well.

Thank you and GBU all.

OKie :) me try my best *angelbounce*

Imma start with this first thing ...

The move is about this married couple, they arent Christians.

They both work hard, and over time it seems like the work has become more important to them both, than each other.

And i see that happen ALOT in relationships. People become so work focused, that they neglect each other. It can start off with all the best intentions, wanting to provide a nice home, amenities etc etc... but then if we arent careful, it can become an open door for satan to enter in and use the promise of power and money and fame, to drive a wedge between us and the one(s) we love.

Now one of the 'principles' as such, was that couples (well in this case it was a guy tryin to win back the heart of his wife) need to be take time out from the day to day, tryin-to-provide routines, and actually spend quality time with each other. Quantity to me isnt as important as quality. And it does come down to the little things... the things that we wouldnt think can make our partners happy, but actually go a long way in showing how much we love them.

Romance shouldnt end after the I Do's have been said and the rice has been pulled out from our hair

So this is but ONE important thing i think that this movie reinforced to me. That we need to make time for the ones we love, cuz time is so very short, and satan makes the distractions shinier and shiner with each passing moment. It can be easy to forget what is truly important.

A quote from the movie is, "Never leave your partner in a fire."
The guy is a firefighter.
What he is talking about here though is his spouse and the fire being an aruement or a difficult time.
*angel7* Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, But faith looks up! Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly and trust in our Creator who loves us.

The movie was terrific. It is very true that sometimes a couple can get to a point where they feel there is no way to restore a relationship but just as God can restore the worst sinner he can restore a marriage that seems utterly hopeless. Love as described in 1 Cor 13 can heal the relationship. One person can unilaterally make the change and maybe like in the movie the other will respond. When a marriage has been neglected, don't expect an immediate reward for the change but like in the movie, it can work if you hang in there and remain persistant in expressing love.

I did some research and discovered the movie inspired the creation of a book called "The Love Dare" based on the notebook Kirk Cameron's character used. I went to Walmart and picked it up. It has some great day by day suggestions for reviving love in a relationship based on I cor 13 and I highly recommend it.

I just saw this movie last night and i agree totally that single and married alike should see it. It shows us what unconditional love should look like. The love the Father has for us, gives to us, and wants us to show toward each other..including our spouses. Placing the other's need in front of our own. Another of the catch phrases in the movie was this........."Fireproof doesn't mean that a fire will never come, but that when it comes, you'll be able to withstand it."

gotta see it my friends. gotta see it! *angelbounce*

My mom got this movie and watched it some time after my dad passed away. She watched it 5 times straight. Said she cried everytime. He and my dad neither were Christian when they got married and there had been a few times they went through that fire. But through it all with Christ in their life they had truly become one.

Its a really good movie to watch for married couple and singles.
