Our gratidue is deepened when we remember the price others paid to help obtain freedom. In the United States, one such person was Richard Stockton.

Stockton was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. He was a prominent lawyer and a wealthy landowner. Because he supported the war efforts, he and his family were driven from their home. That home was sacked and burned. Stockton was imprisoned for several years and subjected to harsh treatment that broke his health. He died a pauper at the age of 51. Yet few Americans remember this hero who paid such a high price for the cause of liberty. His sacrifice is largely forgotten.

Even more important, have we become so familiar with the gospel that we fail to appreciate what our salvation cost the Savior? We rejoice in the spiritual freedom we enjoy by faith in the sin__canceling death of Jesus, but do we realize at least to some small degree the price He paid?

Are we truly grateful to Jesus for all He sacrificed to set us free spiritually? If so, we are to "stand fast... in the liberty by which Christ has made us free" (Gal. 5:1). No matter what else may be demanding our attention, let's take time to remember the unpayable debt we owe Him.

Salvation is infinitely costly but absolutely free.

****************Today's Bible Reading __ Galatians 5:1-14**********

1 stand fast therefore in the
liberty by which Christ has
made us free, and do not be
entangled again with a yoke
of bondage.

2 Indeed I, Paul, say to you
that if you become
circumcised, Christ will
profit you nothing. 3 and I
testify again to every man
who becomes circumcised
that he is a debtor to keep the
whole law. 4 You have
become estranged from
Christ, you who attempt to
be justified by law; you have
fallen from grace. 5 For
in Christ Jesus neither
circumcision nor
uncircumcision avails
anything, but faith working
throug love.

7 You ran well. Who
hindered you from obeying
the truth? 8 This persuasion
does not come from Him
who calls you. 9 A little
leaven leavens the whole
lump. 10 I have confidence in
you, in the Lord, that you
will have no other mind; but
he who troubles you shall
bear his judgment, whoever
he is. 11 and I, brethren, if I
still preach circumcision,
why do I still suffer
persecution? Then the
offense of the cross has
ceased. 12 I could wish that
those who trouble you would
even cut themselves off!

13 For you, brethren, have
been called to liberty; only
do not use liberty as an
opportunity for the flesh, but
through love serve one
another. 14 For all the law is
fulfilled in one word, even in
this: "You shall love your
neighbor as yourself."

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>INSIGHT<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Galatians confronts believers with the dangers of legalism. The
counterpart to legalism? The liberty we have in Christ (v.1), which
enables us to love and serve one another (v.13). __Bill Crowder
