Christian idolatry?
I'm giving God another chance. Or maybe I'm just making up with Him. Years ago as an active Christian I trusted those who were not worthy of my trust. One thing in several assemblies I went to that finally made me run was the existance of idolatry being taught in the many assemblies in question. The idol was "Family Values" Family Values are a set of manmade prohibitions that were an add on to the Scriptures, No dancing, no being alone with somebody of the opposite gender, no alcohol consumption, no wearing of perfume(for the ladies), among others. They reached a point that they were the Ultimate Authority if these teachings conflicted with Biblical teachings. Thus Family Values were put ahead of God's Word which signifies idolatry and a false doctrine. It is written that we are to not to have other gods before God ,Himself. And family values often came before Biblical teachings. So I quit church attendance. Well these teachings of an idolatrous nature were not inspiered by God. So I am getting back to God. But Church attendance is a big nay nay with me. Just so that I can keep focusing on God and not be pressured by the abovementionned idolatrous conduct. Engaging in such idolatrous conduct to appease the spiritual authorities is simply people pleasing. Something done because I fear these human beings"who can only destroy the body" more then I would fear God "Who could destroy body and soul in Hell. So I'm staying away from Christian Assemblies for a good while. I need a differrent yoke, one that is lighter. One that is offerred by Jesus as opposed to what certain asseblies offer. Thanks for reading.

Re: Christian idolatry?
Hi discipleofJesus,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I always say "religianity" is no Christianity. In other words practicing a way of religion does not make you a Christian. You can only be a Christian by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. That's the short and long of it. No matter how many things you do in life, if you don't accept Jesus, believe in Jesus and confess you are a sinner then you cannot be saved. Works do not get us into Heaven only Jesus does.
As for church, the people are what make a church. You can have church right here online fellowshipping with other like minded Believers of Christ. A church is more than a physical building.
We are so glad you are here DicipleofJesus.
Take care and God Bless

Do you know my Jesus? Do you know my friend? Have you heard He loves you? If not, I'd like to introduce you.

Re: Christian idolatry?
thank you, mlg, and so true. The intro into these family values, distinctly differrent from family life values, came soon after I became a Born Again Christian. After awhile I wonderred how such values could be taught to such an excessive degree. They extinguished any freedom Jesus came to give me. I couldn't find that freedom no-how after the Family Values indoctrination. And they turned me into an arrogant Pharrissee. So I dumped them. Thanks again for reading.
