The Problem of Perversity

The Problem of Perversity
Recently I noticed something in the game of U. S. football that opened up this can of reality. More and more stadiums are turning to field turf than natural grass. No big deal, right? No, not to most of us, but to God the Father it is a point of contention. Field turf is a perversion of God’s creation, grass. Every time we change something He has given us for our pleasure and His we have created a perverse thing. Most do not take such an act to heart or consider the consequences. Such is why perversity in the world and among some Christians that say they are Christian, and those of us that are Christian, have a problem understanding what God has created us to be and what He has made for our enjoyment and His. Most of us simply do not pay any attention at all to perverse things any more, but following we will discuss why we should.
The first issue for our understanding is the word perversity itself. We find in Isaiah 53.5 and 53.11 the word iniquity. The Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance defines the word iniquity first as perversity, followed by the equivalent in the phrase moral evil. (Hebrew definition 5771 in Strong’s). Let’s take a look at the scriptures.
[5] But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was bruised for our iniquities, (perversity),(evil): the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. [11] He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities, (perversity),(moral evil).
Moral | Definition of Moral by Merriam-Webster

Merriam Webster
Moral: Concerning or relating to what is right and wrong in human behavior.
Moral evil: Concerning what is wrong in human behavior…perversity…
Perversity according to God: Any action or deed that changes how God intended us to behave and/or substitutes a man made creation in place of something God has created…root cause, pride…what God created is not good enough for us. Another example: manipulation of genetic cells such as that of the tomato to produce a tomato that tastes bland but has a longer shelf life because much of the tomatoes natural sweetness has been edited out.

Perversity from the beginning: The serpent convinced Eve to eat of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. The nature of Adam and Eve was changed from love, life, light, and fellowship with God, to the fear of God, estrangement from God, darkness, death, and hatred of ourselves and others. Why? God’s nature wasn’t good enough for us. Root cause: pride.

And no I am not trying to speak to any particular group of individuals in this article. Whatever we partake of that is perverse or whatever we are doing that is perverse is not necessarily something we can boot out of our lives easily…perhaps of our own selves not at all.

Why should we concern ourselves with perversity? The root of it is pride, which, from the beginning has the nature of evil in it.

Next article we will discuss the solutions that are available to us in Christ Jesus to remediate our issues with perversity.

It is most certainly far better to die in faith believing, than it is to live in unbelief.
