Re: Ginger and Ollie

We saved enough money to put up a fence for ginger. She couldn't jump anymore and we thought she was our last dog so we went with a 4 foot fence. Then along came ollie. He could jump it but he obeyed very well and didn't jump it. Next Summit came along and though he was a well behaved dog his world had no boundary lines. And th efour foot fence was nothing for him to hurdle. Ollie followed. Then the snow came. Our four foot fence is buried in 3 foot of snow so now it's a 1 foot fence. UGH! Ollie and Summit are running the country side every time they convince me they need to use the outdoor bathroom. I don't know about where you live but here our dogs need to have a license. More like a registration. Which is due every January. And here it is February so my dogs registration is out dated. Sigh. If the dogs are caught or hit by a car I can and probably will get fined if not sued. And I'll be *Sorry* Do I need to say I get a little stressed when they get out and oh boy do they get out! Three times a day now. Lord help me. But for tonight though the winds are raging at 50 miles and hour my two are fast asleep in my bedroom. Ollie right beside me on the floor, snoring away like an old man and summit sleeping on the bed by my feet. I need help keeping my puppies in the fence! *eek*

*pray*

My dog Ollie just died. He was a boxer. I think he had a heart attack. He was doing one of his favorite things...running with his buddy Summit. The family is crushed. He was one of us. Our buddy. It makes me wonder what God felt this morning as I woke when He knew today I would loose such a good friend. Did He wish I didn't have to experience this day. Or was He indifferent because this is a part of life. I confess I'm a little angry that He knew. Ollie came up to me today and placed his forehead against mine. We just sat there together like that as long as Ollie wanted to. I wish I could relive that moment just once more. I do hate this world with all it's pain.

Thank you both. We buried Ollie Saturday. A friend came over to help Rusty and Daniel dig through the feet of snow and the hard cold ground. I wrapped ollie in one of his favorite blankets. Though he had so many it was hard to decide which was his favorite.

Summit has stopped going to the garage which is where the body was until we could bury Ollie. He's stopped sniffing the spot where Ollie would sleep. He has seemed to taken on the roll as the guardian of the house. He's not as playful and silly. He has much more of a serious demeanor. He doesn't run away now. He doesn't go more than 10 feet from the house.

Summit use to sleep under the blankets at my feet. After Ollie died he started sleeping on top the covers at my husbands feet. Now he is back to sleeping under the covers at my feet. I assume since we buried Ollie Summit feels the relief inside of me to have things done.

The day after Ollie did we agreed no more dogs. It hurts to much when we loose them. We would of been even more crushed if this hadn't happened naturally. But now we've found a boxer puppy that looks just like Ollie did. It's a girl though. I don't have peace that I am doing the right thing. I wonder if it's fear or it's its just not the right thing.

Oh what a lot of work a puppy is. Oh my. Another baby.

I got parrots because of not wanting to go through the pain of losing another pet. But I wanted the warmth at night. And so I have my two ragdoll cats now. When you are a pet person, you need the pets. I'm glad you had Ollie when Ginger died and Summit when Ollie died.

Annie knows her name now - I said a cheer for her one day and now she gets me to say it often. She starts it, "Oh, Annie
(her name was Stan and then Stannie because she turned out to be a girl - we then morphed it to Annie)

Scotty had to get in on the act. He doesn't talk but he made his "Me, Me, Me" noise. So I had to come up with one for him. So now several times a day I have to do a cheer for the birds. If I am busy, Annie will mumble, "Work, work, work." Or say, "Mommeeeee, hold meeeee"

And she still says, "Four, four, four" when I am counting anything and she groans when I get on the floor to exercise.

When you are a pet person, you need pets. When your arm hurts, you don't cut it off.

When Jim's dog died, I stared campaigning for a new dog. I am not a dog person. Not at all. But he is and he needs to always have a dog. And once he got the new dog, he was very thankful. (She ate shoes - if she ate one pair of mine, I got two new ones; she ate my jacket - I got two new ones; but she's been chewing on the dining room chairs - I don't want a new set of those. I want her to cut it out!)

Hugs. I'm sorry for your pain.
Hugs,
Dema

Thank you for the stories. They made me smile and took my mind off things.

Summit is a very calm dog now. He's not nearly as needy as before. I wonder if he is better being alone.

I think my husband needs a boxer. I found a girl that looks just like Ollie. She is just a few months old. He doesn't stop talking about her. Though he is still showing people Ollies picture and telling them this was his dog and if they find one just like that to let him know.

Right now I don't want to be busy with a puppy. But I want to see my husband and kids enjoying a puppy.
