PRAISE IS RISING

Psalm 89
7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.

My question is a very simple one.

How much do we fear God and have reverence for Him?

Especially when we go into His house.

I know that I sometimes go into God's house in a manner that is not true in heart worship.

Sometimes before the service in many sanctuaries there is the chatter of small talk among the people of God. Surely this shouldn't be the case.

I am just asking myself this question as much as you,

Do I go into God's house to worship and praise Him or to meet with my friends or to exchange the latest news with other members of the congregation?

A final thought is God reverenced and feared in my/your life?

If he was reverenced and feared in my/your life and the life of the church, then there would be:

Zero tolerance to sin
A true heart of worship
No gossip and backbiting within the church
A greater hunger for God's word
A greater urge to pray
A heart for the lost

And a hunger after God himself, as He is given the reverence due to his name.

I write these things to myself as much as anybody, as this is an area, that I fall down on myself

God bless you

Keith

PSALMS 17 PRAYER WITH CONFIDENCE IN FINAL SALVATION
Psalm 17 (NKJV)
17 Hear a just cause, O Lord, Attend to my cry; Give ear to my prayer which is not from deceitful lips.
2 Let my vindication come from Your presence; Let Your eyes look on the things that are upright.
3 You have tested my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have tried me and have found nothing; I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
David was not saying he was sinless. Indeed, he knew better. It was not a proud assumption of purity; it was an understanding of his relationship with God. He was not without sin, nevertheless, his relationship with God was one of close fellowship and constant repentance and forgiveness. His claim to goodness, therefore, came from his continual seeking after God.
Isaiah 30:15 (NKJV)
15 For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: “In returning and rest you shall be saved;
In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” But you would not,
We don't get to heaven by never getting into trouble. We don't get there by walking a perfect walk before God. We get there by continually acknowledging our sins, repenting of them, asking God again to forgive our short comings, getting back into PEACE, and marching on in JESUS.
Psalms 17:4-8 NKJV
4 Concerning the works of men, By the word of Your lips, I have kept away from the paths of the destroyer.
5 Uphold my steps in Your paths, That my footsteps may not slip.
6 I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech.
7 Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You From those who rise up against them.
8 Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings,
The apple of one's eye is in the CENTER of his eye. His eye is always ON them. WE are the apple of God's eye. It is right to pray, as David did, for God to protect us. We must not conclude, however, that we have somehow missed God's protection if we experience problems. God's protection has far greater purposes than just in helping us avoid pain, though He WILL do that at times; it is to make us better servants for Him. God often protects us by guiding us through circumstances, not necessarily by helping us escape them.
The shadow of Thy wings is a figure of speech symbolizing God's protection. He guards us just as a mother bird protects her young by covering them with her wings.
Psalms 17:9-15 NKJV
9 From the wicked who oppress me, From my deadly enemies who surround me.
10 They have closed up their fat hearts; With their mouths they speak proudly.
11 They have now surrounded us in our steps; They have set their eyes, crouching down to the earth,
12 As a lion is eager to tear his prey, And like a young lion lurking in secret places.
13 Arise, O Lord, Confront him, cast him down; Deliver my life from the wicked with Your sword,
14 With Your hand from men, O Lord, From men of the world who have their portion in this life, And whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They are satisfied with children, And leave the rest of their possession for their babes.
15 As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.
We deceive ourselves when we measure our happiness or contentment in life by the amount of wealth we possess. When we put riches at the top of our value system, their power, pleasure, and security overshadow the eternal value of our relationship with God. We think we will be happy or content when we get riches, only to discover that they don't really satisfy and the pleasures fade away. (have you ever come into a largish amount of money? I have a time or two, and the thing I've seen is that cash tends to fall through one's fingers. It's here, then it's not. God's provision is continual.) The true measurement of happiness or contentment is found in God's love and in doing His will. You will find true happiness if you put your relationship with God above EVERYTHING else. The word AWAKE shows that David believed in life after death. Although belief in resurrection was not widespread in the Old Testament times, several verses show that it was partially understood, as this verse does. David meant he would become a SPIRIT after his death.
