Ginger and Ollie

Postby Dora » Sun Dec 02, 2012 6:33 pm

Ginger is nearly 15. She has been such a good dog. Slowly we watched over the past few years Ginger slowly evolve back to a puppy. She started doing things that she hadn't done since she was a puppy. She is confused. She thinks a window is a door and will wait for the window to open when the door is inches away from her and wide open. She can't see. She can't hear.

She was extremely sick the others day. I am not sure what from. It seems like every different action that comes from Ginger my heart goes directly to I'm loosing her soon. I am sure I over react. I do apologize for that. It's just she's been my baby girl for 15 years. Which is kinda funny cause in dog years she is old enough to be my grandmother. lol

When extremely depressed Ginger seemed to feel it and would come cheer me up with a little nudge and wagging tale. Her tale isn't wagging so much anymore.

Ollie is a million types of wonderful. :) I truly believe God sent him to my family. He has already helped all of us through struggling times.

Yesterday he started choking on his food. Oh perhaps I should tell you he's a rescued dog. His previous owners surrendered him over because they couldn't stop him from biting tires. Literally popping peoples tires. That can get expensive. One time he bit a tire that was attached to a moving vehicle and it broke his jaw. He didn't receive proper treatment for it. *sad* So here we have this wonderful pet who seems to be slightly human. :) He can't open his mouth very wide because his jaw mended crooked. And so his tongue hangs out a lot. It gets dried out. :( :( :( and now he's choking on food. I put his food up and gave him Gingers food as it's smaller bites. He probably can't chew well I guess.

I pray God heals his jaw. I have noticed his tongue doesn't always hang out now and only a small bit hangs out. Where before we began praying his entire tongue would hang out.

We just love both these dogs. If you feel led would you send up a prayer for both dogs. Gingers last days here on earth and Ollies jaw that's set crooked causing him problems. If I can figure out how to post a picture of them I will. :)

God bless you all.

I can't figure out how to post a pic in the forums. But I can put a picture of Ollie on my page.

Ollie is such a gift. He's helped all 5 of us to keep going. As well as added lots more smiles and even laughter to my home as he is a silly dog. He is addicted to things that squeak. lol It's so funny.

I'm so thankful this morning that God showed me why Ollie is choking on his food. I love the way God works. *Clap*

I tried making the recipe for home made dog food that Mack gave me. I think i failed. I know I left out some ingredients because I didn't have them.

Ginger seems upset at me. She looks up at me and leaves the room. She usually only does that when I'm trying to play the guitar and sing.

Ollie follows me around everywhere. I love it. He's my little buddy and companion. What I also love is how he loves Cubby and each of the kids. I wonder if having him near me will grow old. I hope not. Having him here makes me feel like a little girl on Christmas morning. Except every day is Christmas with Ollie here.

I keep asking God to heal his snout and sometimes it appears to be straight. With a crooked snout his tongue hangs out and gets dry and he can't eat very well. I think it might be effecting his breathing.

Aww pine... I think ginger may be feeling a little left out. Like little children, when another child comes into the family, theformer child who got all the attention has a hard time dealing with less attention. If you spend more time with ginger, she'll be ok =)

I'm sure that's part of it Rep sis. Ginger never was a lap dog. She liked her space. She's just old old old. She looks in pain even after taking a pain killer. But she still likes snacks. Ollie isn't so crazy about snacks so when I see ginger I give her a snack and pet her. Snacks really are her favorite thing.

*hug* love you!

I've been praying for God to heal Ollies jaw. It was broken and grew back crooked. Because it was never set back into place. His tongue hangs out because of this and it's harder for him to eat.

I've asked God to heal him. Others say they doubt it will happen. I felt as if the Lord was asking me personally I was going to follow them. I chose to believe that God is going to fix Ollie. When we got him his tongue would hang out like 5 inches. It's been two weeks and this morning his tongue is not hanging out at all. NOT AT ALL! His jaw is still crooked. But His tongue is where it's suppose to be. I'm so happy for him.

This morning as I snuggled with Ollie and I was reminded how Ollies mouth is crooked. Not just mouth but entire muzzle. I asked God to repair it and I felt as if He answered. He showed me how Ollie fits in with this family. How like Ollie we have our problems. Some are noticable to the public, some are not. I believe God showed me how I am healing very slowly and that Ollie will heal very slowly as well. I just have to be patient.

Ginger seems to have a little more life in here. I think it's because of her companion Ollie.

Ollie and Ginger had a friend spend the night. lol Oscar is a big black lab. Ollie and Oscar spent most of their time together romping in the snow outside. Ginger seemed to have a little more energy than she has had lately.

There was one point she glared at me as if to say, "You brought another one home!" Another dog. Oscar has gone home now. I puppy sleep over has ended. Ginger and Ollie both are resting up after the exciting time.

Ollie needs a different food than Ginger. He gulps hers down and then throws up. Ollie is throwing up because she eats so fast. We keep food down for Ginger always. Cause she is old and loosing a lot of muscle. Ollie has tiny bites because her bite is not lined up straight from that accident. Any one know how to always have Gingers food available but keep Ollie out of it?

Hello Piney (((hugs)))

God bless you this day.

It is not uncommon for those that have 2 or more dogs that have different food requirements to have to make adjustments in their feeding routines. Ginger, even though she is old, can adjust to 2 feedings a day, instead of the grazing method. Dogs adapt easier to changes in routines than humans. Dogs live in the now, and are happy to be fed. Ginger will adjust to the new feeding regimen, quickly, even though she is old. Place her food down, and when she stops and walks away, take her bowl up and put it away. She is not going to starve or suffer in the in-between time of the 2 daily feedings.

Another thing, don't get upset or feel badly for instilling the new routine. Dogs can and often pick up on the vibes that we give off. The truth is she will be more than fine with 2 daily feedings, so don't project any negative or sad feelings onto the situations, all that would serve would be to make you feel down and cause her confusion... wondering "what the heck is wrong with Piney?" lol

I hope this helps. :)

God bless and keep you.
Love,
Mack
