difficulties w/ the Holy Spirit.

Postby itsjanet » Mon Nov 19, 2012 12:53 am

I believe in the Holy Spirit. The trinity. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.

Few months ago, I was studying a work book titled EXPERIENCING GOD. One of the weeks study was about exercising the Holy Spirit. I following along with the study the best I could, obediently followed the exercise. However, it led me to feel foolish. Perhaps it's analogous to watching a chick flap its wings and fall off a tree.

I know the gift of the Holy Spirit is by grace, not by works. I'm just a little confused.

Hi itsjanet, I have alway's thought Henry Blackaby was pretty solid as a teacher. It's been a long time since I read anything by Him, maybe something has changed. What exactly was the exercise ? And why did it make you feel foolish ? I use to have this book and maybe the workbook, but 30 inches of water in my home at the end of june put an end to it. With all of the scriptures about God the Son in the bible, to not accept Christ's divinity would deny such a large amount of scripture, that one could not " trust" the bible as the Word of God. Perhaps this is why the founder ( Charles Taze Russell)of the jehova witnesses translated his own bible (new world translation). This teaching about Christ , the denial of Holy Spirit as God and that teachings and truth must be made by their governing body is why NO CHURCH regards them as christian. Father God showed His great love to us by sending His Son to die for us, not a created being. Grace and Peace Jimf
