I deserved to pay the price

Postby praisetheking95 » Wed Oct 31, 2012 1:55 pm

Guilty hands revealed
All my desires shown
Sin-filled heart exposed
My cover blown

My flawless mask
Beginning to crack
My white spotless reputation
Shown to be black

I stand in a t-shirt
Coated in dirt
Its original purity
Spoiled with sin and hurt

I scrub at the filth
Hoping it will fade
But it is too damaged
It is far too stained

It’s my own fault
I made it unclean
With my sinful behaviour
When I was cruel and mean

I’m too ashamed
Guilt fills my heart
I am desperate to change
But where do I start?

Then appears a man
Dressed in white
His purity apparent
He shines like a light

I begin to weep
As I compare myself to him
I am so broken
And trapped by sin

“Please forgive me
I shouldn’t have done it
I understand if you hate me
I was wrong, I admit it”

Instead of pushing me away
He embraces me and weeps too
He comforts me in my sadness
And tells me what’s true

“You may feel guilty
But there’s a way to be free
Let me take away your sin
And give your life to me”

I look in confusion
As he removes his shirt
He puts on my one
That is coated in dirt

But I ruined it
I deserve to pay the price
But out of love, he takes on my muck
The ultimate sacrifice

I stand in a gleaming white shirt
That shouldn’t belong to me
That dirty t-shirt is no longer mine
Apparently it’s that easy

Jesus didn’t come to condemn us
He came to give us grace
He didn’t come out of anger
But to take our place

He took our sin away
And loves us despite it all
Nothing is too big for God
And nothing is too small

Turn to him
To feel his grace and love
It is no longer your problem
Leave it at the foot of the cross
God's promises are like the stars; the darker the night the brighter they shine. ~David Nicholas
