needing support

Postby Ruthk34 » Sun Jun 17, 2012 5:18 pm

Hi I'm new on this site and have never tried one like it before but my heart was heavy and in need of emotional support from others who share my views. I recently discovered one of the side effects of birth control is that it can cause embryonic abortion. I was real upset about this so I started to research natural family planing. What my stuggle is is that others around me think that the NFP lifestyle is silly and i'm crazy to want to do it. They are like "so what if birth control can cause embryonic abortion after all you don't want to have anymore kids." But I would never knowingly abort a baby just because I didn't desire to have more. Mostly my reason for trying not to have more children is because of the health risk. It would be a very high risk pregnacy because of my history. My last pregnancy I was put on bed rest and had to be induced early to avoid complications, and nowadays I am also a diabetic were before i wasn't. So I struggle with my choice and no one understands or supports me in this. I feel like I am all alone in wanting to do the right thing.
Does anyone else agree that natural family planning is the way to go?

My wife is diabetic, hypertension, with sugar. While pregnant the doc was trying to convince us to have an abortion because of health issues. Doc even went out the way to scare us by saying we are going to have a monster. At the last minute on the abortion table my wife couldn't bring herself to do it. Our daughter was born premature with an enlarged kidney. My daughter recently had surgery to correct the kidney and another due soon to remove the stents (pardon the grammar). All praises to our Heavenly Father she is no monster and other than the kidney problem she is very healthy. Therefore, once you are married and not engaged (smile) may God also shower you and your husband with a healthy child.[ Genesis 1: 28] then take a look at [Philippians 4:13] May God bless.

I think that surgical sterilization is probably safest. Either you could have your tubes tied or your husband could have a vasectomy. If you don't want more children and it would be unhealthy for you to do so, then that seems to be the best thing to me.

They can do the tubal with just a little incision - and then you never have to worry about it again. Some insurance pays for it I believe.

Ruth,
I had three pregnacies. First made me very sick and I lost so much weight, I was nearly hospatilized. Then second, I miscarried, the third was born 2 months early and weighed a little over three pounds. He was healthy except for his lungs. While fully formed, they were very weak and at 6 months he had pneumonia. After the third was born, I knew I couldn't risk another pregancy. I did not know what shape the baby would be in and it was unfair to the baby to doom it to a life of possible major handicapps. I had my tubes tied and never regretted it at all. :)

I had considered sterilization but the potential complications that can occure are too much for me. I have a bad track record lately when it comes down to having side effects. My scarriest was a mini stoke caused by a medication and at 34 yrs old that terrified me. I thank God that I didn't have lasting effects but now I am leary of anything medical. Also that it would be permanent, I'm not ready for that yet either, I thought I was but when seriously considering it i shied away. Sometimes when I see babies I long for another one myself even going as far as thinking up baby names, my husband does too. I go back and forth wanting one and telling myself no it's not a good idea finacialy or because of the possible risk.
Then there is Genisis 1:28 and Philipians 4:13 (thank you T.H.S).
Thank you all for responding and giving me food for thought as well.

I understand your delima. Think of this... diabietes can passed on to children. At 34 you are approaching the age where disabilities are possible. check with your doctor and see if having another baby a viable option for you. The small stroke caused by meds should not be a problem. I urge you to do some research, ask questions of your doctors before you decide either way. Be informed before you act.
