Atheist Cousin with Asbergeers
My cousin (as you can see) has a special kind of autism. He has asbergeers. He is extremely smart, but he uses other people (including me) to get his way. I love him and want to get him to God, but I am told he will never be changed. I have tried to get him to the great and powerful Lord, but he just laughs and gives me a lecture on how my belief is impossible. How can I overcome his disability? Do I want him to go to heaven because I am selfish?

Re: Atheist Cousin with Asbergeers
Sis,
You want him to go to heaven because that is the heart the Lord has given you toward him. Pray for him. When the Lord presents the time, minister to him, send him songs, whatever the Lord leads you to do. I believe that God knows and judges the heart. I have a cousin who is severely mentally handicapped. Ive been told by some that he wouldnt go to heaven because he has never accepted the Lord Jesus as his savior. Hogwash. He knows his heart. He knows his capabilities....mindwise, understanding level, etc.....
Pray, pray and pray for him. And, minister to him when the Lord asks you to.
Im praying for you both. His perfect will be done in this.
In Jesus,
love momo

Re: Atheist Cousin with Asbergeers
Hello 1stTimothy
God bless you this day.
I don't know if you have ever watched the move "Temple Grandin" or not, but I encourage you to do so. Temple Grandin is a real woman, who happens to have Aspergers and she is quite a remarkable woman. To quote a line from the movie she describes herself as "different, but not less".
You mentioned that your cousin likes to use you and others. I suggest that that is a characteristic flaw in most human beings.
Be an example of Christ to your cousin and to everyone. Love and pray for all. A "condition", "syndrome" or "diagnosis" is no contest for God. Thank You Jesus!!! He took none of my "conditions, syndromes or diagnosis's" into consideration when He called me and saved me. Thank You Jesus!!!
God bless and keep you, 1stTimothy (((hugs)))
Love,
Mack

I try, but he thinks that all Christians are lazy and eat unhealthy. It is because I tend to be lazy and I eat McDonalds every now and then.

Oh yes, All or Nothing. Black or White. No in-between. No gray areas.
Intersting flow of conversation. Did you know Temple Grandin worked (works?) for McDonalds Corporation?
Among other things, she found ways to help calm the animals on thier farms (ranches?).
Did you know she is, - Dr. Temple Grandin?
My son likes to learn how things that effect his life, work.
He can go on and on about vacuums, washers, coffee makers, lights, electricity, etc.
He is currently learning, in bits and pieces, about Jesus.
Much of it seemed to come together when his grandfather died.
My suggestion is to take it slow. Bits and pieces. Have some casual intelectual conversations with him
laying out a path in a thoughtful, pondering, process. Make him think.
Find out how he best learns. Pictures, hands on, routines??? Try to apply his learning style to your sharing.
I remember Mercy (Yentle) reaching out to my son through picture stories. He enjoyed that very much.
He could follow her thought proccess.
And I echo mom and Mack, love and prayer and in His timeing. His will, will be done.
As far as Christians being lazy and eat unhealthy, I bet he could find some biblical truth in that.
I join in prayer with the Oasis prayer team for you and your cousin.
God brought him to you to pray over. You brought him to us, so we pray over him too.
I pray God strenghten your faith and give you wisdom and guidance in this matter.

If you live in the USA you can catch Temple Grandin on Extreme Makeover Home Edition on Friday, October 28, 2011 (8:00-9:00 & 9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
She will be helping the team to re-design a home, which does not meet the safety needs of the Autistic children in the household.
