It is a sobering reality. I faced a similar shocking moment about how prefectionism affects people around us. In the classroom today, I heard two students say they were stupid. I couldn't have reacted any faster. I was appalled and infuritated that these two precious first graders would speak about themselves in such a manner. They are both bright and capable students. I WILL NOT allow any of them to say anything about themselves or others like that. It is also a wake up call for myself. How often do I speak about myself in a similar manner? How do others around me and God feel when I speak about myself in such a manner? If I would be some upset, how much more would God be?

Re: The Disease Called Perfection
Amen, brother, I love your message! It's a much needed message- If only we could be REAL in churches today!!! People in the church feel that everyone else around them is perfect, so they are afraid to share their struggles. Let's be real- let's show people that we will love them unconditionally- no matter how "messed up" they are
I know many people think I'm perfect. Many people around me have thought that I have it all together. after all, I achieved high honors, went on several missions trips, was a leader in high school, college, an church, wrote a book, and was a good athlete. Wander if I have any struggles? the answer is "Yes" - A million of them
1. I struggle with feelings of worthlessness and inferioriy
2. I have huge anger issues- I am really angry at certain people in my life who mistreated me
3. I get really lonely every day- I'm starved for fellowship
4. I lust after women all the time and watch R-rated movies with porn and violence- to ease the pain inside me
5. I hate myself sometimes and I hate life sometimes
6. I have been suicidal several times within the past 2 years
Need I say more? I'm really messed up by life, and I trying to get free, become whole. But dont be discouraged when everyone else around you seems to have it all together- some of the most happy, cheerful people have huge struggles that we know nothing about
