Day 11 - The Path

Postby living4Him » Sat Sep 25, 2010 10:35 am

This was definitately not one of my favorite lessons. I have a huge problem with the word "surrender"...... to me it brings forth visions of defeat, failure, etc. I know in some contexts these may be good things but to me I only see them as bad. I don't know where this mind set comes from but it is all I ever remember about the definition of surrender. When my uncle used to sexually abuse me he always said that I was a good little girl for surrendering so easily to him and not fighting back or telling anyone our little secret. I hated that word, especially as I began to realize that what was going on between he and I was wrong. It made me feel guilty for 'surrendering" to him.....as if I was giving permission for him to do as he pleased. I guess that was when I decided that I would NEVER surrender to anyone again because it was obviously a bad thing to do. It made me a bad person and I didn't need any more reminders of how bad I was/am.....I had and still have plenty. This surrender thing may take me some time......I know that my heart is hard to a certain extent when it comes to surrendering. I don't even know how to begin to chip away at this barrier to freedom......

Well first you have to see that what your uncle was saying was a lie...he was telling you that you were surrendering to him...but in reality we know your uncle was forcing you to do these things and that you did not really want to....so you know that your uncle's interpretation of the word surrender was not true...as surrendering to God means that you are willing to let God have control because of the love He has for you...and the fact that He would never use that surrender to harm you...and this is why it's ok to surrender to God because He will never take advantage of you.

Keep working on it sis...you will get it.

luv ya
Do you know my Jesus? Do you know my friend? Have you heard He loves you? If not, I'd like to introduce you.

Replace in the study the word surrender with the word "let go."

Or release. What it's asking is that you release control of your past, present, and future to God.

Sis God has forgiven you. There's no judgment.

What He has for you is greater than the things you hold so tightly to. But your hands are full of those things. He can't give you the new things till you empty your hands of the old things. Release them. Let them fall. Allow Him to take them. So He can fill you with His blessings. Peace, love, and joy. Abundantly. It's waiting for you. :)

Love you much! *hug*

I know it's difficult. as someone who went through it I can share with you that there is a better place. It is in the releasing that you will live.

Don't give up. We seem to have to get to a place where we just can't go any farther down before we let go. It's painful to let go. But the pain of holding on is so much worse.

You can do this. Might take a little time. But you can. Start using your words to tell you where you are going.

Instead of saying I cant. Say I can. I will. You are fighting yourself.

Keep on. Don't ever give up. You won't get any where if you do.

I've relied on other things to help me through. They really don't work. Temporary cover ups that just delay the healing. I know it's hard and you want help. You want release. No matter where it comes from. Right?

He's the only answer. The only way. And He will get you there. One day this will be part of your testimony. If it were a peace of cake to get over all this stuff it would be hard to have patience and understanding for the one who you see struggling to get over it. You know the one (ones) that are coming along behind you that are going to need you to help show them the way.

Love you.

Hi living
Here's a link to a post I did on breaking word curses. It may help with this thought.
I agree with Pine to change the word so you don't associate with it.

Hello Living4Him

One of the aspects of Paul's urging us to renew our minds daily , is this very issue you , I and just about everyone else finds ourselves clashing our heads against . By re-new-ing our minds daily , means just that , in other words , he is saying , in your case , that was then , this is now . Then , the word obviously had a different meaning according to someone else's criteria , and we didn't know any better . Today , we KNOW what it is meant , and to continue on comparing it to other people's opinion or motivations about it will only keep us in there (in the past) .
Today , surrender means , surrender that old idea you have about the word surrender (makes sense ?) , like Pine said , let go of it .

There's a chinese fable bout the bear and a hot kettle . you know the term bear hug of course , well , when a bear gets hold of something intimidating , it gives it a hug as to crush it between its arms and chest . Well when a curious bear came across a campfire with a kettle on it , he grabbed the kettle , and being hot and burning the bear , the bear instinctively tried to crush it with a hug , and , you know , the tighter the "hug" the hotter the kettle and the tighter the hug ... 'Tough the kettle WAS being crushed , nevertheless , it was still hot ! Little that the bear know , all it had to do was let go of the kettle , surrender its own power to crush the thing that's burning it .

The longer we hold on , the longer it'll take to heal .

Someone puts me in the ring with an eight foot gorilla , at first I'd say "Yeah , let me give it a try " Bam ! Flat on my back right ? "Ok , this time it'll be different !" .. Bam ! .. "Ok , how about this one !" .. Bam !!
"Okkaayy , where's the exit ??? "

In Christ , our Lord
