whose soever sins ye remit, they shall be remitted unto them; [and] whose soever [sins] ye retained they are retained.
a dear sweet lady says this scripture gives the catholic priest the power to forgive and or absolve sin.
i used lk 24:47 to say that the disciples were told there to preach repentance and remission of sin in the name of Jesus.
but my question is how can someone forgive someone else for a sin that was not committed against them?
sin as in trangressions are committed against GOD. we know we have sinned because we were given laws that stated what was and wasn't sin.
now we are under grace and not the law. we are not bound by the civil and ceremonial law of the Jews, but the moral law is still in effect, right?
do we keep the commandments as Christians because it was a nice gesture on God's part, or are we told to do or not do such things?
our sin sacrifice was made once and for all. is not God the only righteous judge?
what do yall think?

Hello Huelsingbroad and Everyone :)

God bless you this day.

Awwwww Flutie, I hope you'll re-post.

I love MDBren's post. Woooooohoooooo!

I just have a few more things to add to the discussion.

John 20:23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

Matthew 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thous shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Matthew 18:18-20
(18) Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
(19) Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
(20) For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them.

There was a certain situation which arose when Jesus healed a man that I'd like to bring to this discussion.

Matthew 9:1-8
1And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city.

2And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

3And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.

4And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?

5For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?

6But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

7And he arose, and departed to his house.

8But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.

Wooooooohooooooo!!!

John 14:12-14
(12) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
(13) And whatsoever ye shall ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
(14) If ye shall ask any thing in My name, I will do it.

I want to stress something here..."whatsoever in My name"

The name is Jesus. Jesus is Lord.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Thank you Jesus.

Isn't God's Word...Jesus absolutely Awesome!!!

God bless you.
Love,
Mack
