Am I misguided?

While worshiping one day, God put in my mind an image. I knew that He wanted me to post about it on Oasis but I put it off, not knowing how to start it, not knowing where to put it.
Last Sunday, this topic was talked about in chat. I did not want to join in at that moment because:
1. I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up
2. I didn't have Scripture handy to back up what I wanted to say.

The vision was of a person, hunched over walking, whipping his back repeating "I'm a sinner, I'm a sinner" over and over.

At chat, someone said to the effect of "Some people believe they are not sinners because of Jesus" Someone else answered to the effect of "Let us pray for those poor, misguided people"
Well, I am one of those who believe and I do not feel misguided.
This is why.

Hebrews 9:15 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance-now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

Hebrews 9:27-28 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people;

Hebrews 10:12-17 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this.
First he says: "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds."
Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more"

1Peter 2:24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

1John 1:6-7 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

1John 12:2 Jesus Christ* is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

So, my way of reading this is that Jesus died to make a new covenant to wipe out our sins, the original sin.
For me to not believe this is to believe that Jesus died in vain.

Now, I'm not saying I don't sin. I'm human after all but I believe that if I repent, I will be forgiven.

1John 1:8-10 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

I also know that I try to be the best I can be to show Jesus's grace through me by the Holy Spirit who is guiding me.

1John 2:5-6 But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

1John 2:26-27 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit-just as it has taught you, remain in him.

1John 3:2-3 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

1John 3:6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning.

1John 3:9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

1John 5:18-19 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him.

Humm... I was born again when I took Jesus into my life as my lord and savior.

1Peter 1:23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

I wouldn't want to be that person hunched over whipping myself over and over. I want to be the person who spreads God's light in joy!

We live in a body of flesh, we are going to sin, not purposely sin. I do things without thinking sometimes and then afterwards realized how wrong i was, it brings me coming to God and then knowing I'm forgiven. Through it it helps me grow hopefully not making the same mistake twice. (i have though), but it also helps me come to a more meaningful relationship with Christ knowing just how deep his love is and what He did on the cross. Shows me His infinite righteousness, His infinite
mercy, and His infinite grace upon us and just how much we need Him.

Galatians 6:18 Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

We continually need grace as Paul says here in Galatians...notice he says brethren...which means brothers and sisters in Christ...and then says may the grace be with their spirit...We always need grace because we always will fall down until we leave this flesh.

Powerful scripts indeed .

The way I look at it , and I believe I responded to what was said in chat as well , is once a sinner always a sinner , that's why I am forever in need of His Grace an a daily basis . Does He wipe out ALL my sins and forget they ever happened ? Yes Indeed and a forever Amen for that , but , that doesn't stop me from being a sinner either , I just try my best not to repeat it . For the day I forget I'm a sinner , self-rightousness sets in and that's a greater sin than the one I would commit on my own as a human , and commit them I will . But , as you said , to go around and keep beating myself up with it continually , I am denying ALL the scripts you wrote down up there , which is the greatest of sins .

By this I am thinking you are talking about pride. Yes, pride is a greater sin (and a whole nother teaching) but if we are lead by the Holy Spirit, we can overcome pride. Doesn't mean you are a sinner, just that like all humans, you can sin.

Ephesians 3:16-21 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge-that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

As far as pin pointing book chptr , & vrse , not at this moment , but , I do know it is said , at least in context .

Lets say for example , if we can change the spots on a leopard and remove them , does that stop it from being a leopard ? Even if it is spotless ?

Also my understanding , hence the reason of my belief , is the fact that even when my sins are completely washed as white as wool , when people point their fingers at me they still cry , "look !, man !, a sinner ! who just happened to be that his sins are now washed ! But I still am open to sin again , because as a man I am sinful by nature , and not ncessarily always by thought and action .

Make sense ?
