As I walked into church one Sunday morning, a little boy looked at me and said to his mother, "Mom, is that Jesus?" Needless to say, I was curious to hear her response. "No," she said, "that's our pastor."

I knew she would say no, of course, but I still wished she could have added something like, "No, that's our pastor, but he reminds us a lot of Jesus."

Being like Jesus is the purpose of life for those of us who are called to follow Him. In fact, as John Stott notes, it is the all-consuming goal of our past, our present, and our future. "We shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is" (1 John 3:2).

Being like Jesus is not about keeping the rules, going to church, and tithing. It's about knowing His forgiveness, and committing acts of grace and mercy on a consistent basis. It's about living a life that values all people. and it's about having a heart of full surrender to the will of our Father.

Be like Jesus. You were saved for it! __Joe Stowell

**************Todays Bible Reading __ Romans 8:26-29***********

26 Likewise the Spirit also
helps in our weaknesses. For
we do not know what we
should pray for as we ought,
but the Spirit Himself makes
intercession for us with
groanings which cannot be
uttered. 27 Now He who
searches the hearts knows
what the mind of the Spirit
is, because He makes
intercession for the saints
according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all
things work together for
good to those who love God,
to those who are the
called according to His
purpose. 29 For whom He
foreknew, He also
predestined to be
conformed to the image of
His Son, that He might be
the firstborn among many
brethren.

Under Jewish law, the firstborn son must be dedicated to God,
because he belongs to God (Ex. 13:2; 22:29). The firstborn is also
accorded exalted status and given special privileges (Deut. 21:15-
17). Jesus is described as the "firstborn among many brethren"
(Rom. 8:29). Elsewhere, Jesus is God's firstborn into the world (Heb.
1:6), the firstborn over all creation (Col. 1:15), and the firstborn
from the dead (1:18). Because of Christ, Christians are called the
"church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven" (Heb. 12:23).
