Did you ever notice how quickly things get old or outdated?

I thought about this the other day as I taught my class at a Christian college. They're on the cutting edge by providing a laptop computer for each student. It wasn't too long ago when it was innovative for a college to have computers for students in the library. Then it was cutting edge to provide them for dorm rooms. But someday even personal laptops will become obsolete as well.

Everything man creates will eventually go out of date. Everything, that is, but the gospel The gospel is over 2,000 years old. And though there have been a lot of updated Bible translations, the gospel is still as relevant today as it was when it was written.

The gospel is this; Jesus Christ came to earth, lived a perfect life, gave up His life by being sacrificed on a cross, was buried in a borrowed tomb, and was raised from the dead 3 days later (1 Cor. 15: 1-4). Because He took our punishment for sin on Himself, He can forgive our sins and make us children of God if we put our faith and trust in Him (Acts 13:38-39).

Let the greatest story ever told make you brand-new--forever. It's the story that never grows old. __ Dave Branon

1 Moreover, brethren, I
declare to you the gospel
which I preached to you,
which also you received
and in which you stand,

2 by which also you are
saved, if you hold fast that
word which I preached to
you--unless you believed
in vain.

3 For I delivered to you
first of all that which I also
received: that Christ died
for our sins according to the
scriptures, 4 and that He
was buried, and that He
rose again the third day
according to the Scriptures,

5 and that He was seen by
Cephas, then by the twelve.

6 After that He was seen by
over five hundred brethren
at once, of whom the
greater part remain to the
present, but some have
fallen asleep. 7 After that He
was seen by James, then by
all the apostles. 8 Then last
of all He was seen by me
also, as by one born out of
due time.

The direct testimony of two or three eyewitnesses was legally
binding in Jewish law as establishing the truth of a matter (Deut.
19:15). Here Paul names the witnesses who saw the risen Christ
(1 Cor. 15:5-8). Most were still alive and could testify.

According to John 20:10-18, Mary Magdalene was the first person
to see the risen Christ. But Paul did not list her, perhaps because he
wanted to persuade his audience, and so he was careful to observe
the Jewish requirement that eyewitnesses must be men. Likewise,
Acts 1:3 mentions only men as witnesses to the resurrection.

The fact that gospel accounts report that women were the first
eyewitnesses is further evidence of the Bible's divine inspiration.
Had the writers wished to fabricate a story, surely they would have
known that the testimony of women was inadmissible in court. Yet
they wrote that women were the first eyewitnesses precisely because
it was true! (Matt. 28:1-10; Mark 16:1-8; Luke 24:1-11). __SKT
