We are God's fellow
workers.
__1 Corinthians 3:9

On May 29, 1953, New Zealander Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa guide, Tenzing norgay, became the first people to reach the peak of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. Since Tenzing did not know how to use the camera, Edmund took a photo of Tenzing as evidence that they did reach the top.

Later, journalists repeatedly asked who had reached the summit first. The expedition leader, John Hunt, replied, "They reached it together, as a team." They were united by a common goal, and neither was concerned who should get the greater credit.

It is counterproductive to try to determine who deserves the most credit when something is done well. The church at Corinth was split into two factions--those who followed Paul, and those who followed Apollos. The apostle Paul told them, "I planted, Apollos watered.... Neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters" (1 Cor. 3:7). He reminded them that they were "God's fellow workers" (v.9), and it is God who gives the increase in ministry (v.7).

Our concern about who deserves the credit serves only to take away the honor and glory that belong to the Lord Jesus alone. __C. P. Hia

***********Today's Bible Reading __ 1 Corinthians 3:1-9************

1 And I, brethren, could
not speak to you as to
spiritual people but as to
carnal, as to babes in Christ.

2 I fed you with milk and
not with solid food; for
until now you were not able
to receive it, and even now
you are still not able; 3 for
you are still carnal. For
where there are envy, strife,
and divisions among you,
are you not carnal and
behaving like mere men?

4 For when one says, "I am
of Paul," and another, "I am
of Apollos," are you not
carnal?

5 Who then is Paul, and
who is Appollos, but
ministers through whom
you believed, as the Lord
gave to each one? 6 I
planted, Apollos watered,
but God gave the increase.

7 So then neither he who
plants is anything, nor he
who waters, but God who
gives the increase. 8 Now he
who plants and he who
waters are one, and each
one will receive his own
reward according to his
own labor. 9 For we are
God's fellow workers; you
are God's field, you are
God's building.

Apollos (v.5), a fervent believing Jew from Alexandria, probably
a disciple of John (Acts 18:24-25), was taught in the way of God
more accurately by Aquila and Priscilla (vv.26-27). He co-ministered
with Paul in Corinth (Acts 18:27; 19:1). As an apologist (18:28), he
watered the seed sown by Paul (1 Cor. 3:6). Despite the partisan
spirit behind different leaders (1 Cor. 1:12), Paul and Apollos were
fellow workers (1 Cor. 3:9) in a united, supportive relationship
(1 Cor. 3:8; 16:12; Titus 3:13). __SIM KAY TEE
