On the last page, we discovered how to bring romance back into the marriage and how we are not to take our spouses for granted.

Now ... Let's talk about the Spiritual connection of marriage. What about the Soul Mates theory?

Soul Mate

As a child you learn of a soul mate ... A person made perfectly for you, your two souls become connected as one and are destined to be together until the end of time.

Through adolescence you grasp on to this idea of a soul mate, believing you will someday find the one.

But after much heartache and many rivers of tears, this notion you've held onto for years begins to fade.

As time goes by, day by day, year after year, you move forward, accepting of your failures and proud of your successes ... Until that day.

This is a day like any other, it begins no differently than yesterday and the days before, but it is a day that will change you forever, a day that the magic and fantasy of a soul mate becomes real.

For each of us it happens differently ... The holding of eye contact, an introduction, a smile. Regardless of how it began, the moment is unforgettable.

It was a magical moment, frozen in time, the surroundings, the smells, the feeling you felt. The rush of warmth through your body felt exhilarating and new, yet somehow familiar. It was a feeling you imagined time and again ... But never this powerful.

As butterflies fluttered in your stomach it was an explosion of emotions. Who is this person that can make me feel this way?

As this invisible force draws you to this person you can sense a mutual feeling. A connection unlike any other you've experienced before, impossible to resist.

You feel a burning, a fire from deep inside, that you can't ignore. From that first second of encounter this person is there with you, in every thought and action ... Causing you to smile, laugh, and feel more alive than ever before.

This person becomes a part of you, your other half ... Your soul mate. And as you learned as a child, this person was made perfectly for you, your two souls are connected as one and are destined to be together until the end of time.

Most of us have heard of the theory that suggests that each of us has a Soul Mate out there somewhere. Now to some folks, this theory sounds a little far fetched. But is it?

Does the Bible not say something very similar?

Matthew 19:4-6

⁴ And He answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
⁵ And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
⁶ Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Does this not say that God joined together these two souls? Does God not know who is going to belong to who before we are born? Do these two not become one?

The Soul Mates theory or what some call "Split Aparts" suggests that one soul was divided and the two souls from this division were placed on Earth as to see if the two souls could become one again, by overcoming the world with true love.

It is obvious that overcoming the world is the hard part. Kind of like when the moon asked the sun "Why is it that I oft times sit in darkness?" ... The sun responded, "It is because you let the world come between us."

It is the walls that we build around our hearts, that causes pride to be our first reaction when we feel hurt by another despite who that person is. Even our loved ones. However, if it was truly our Soul Mate ... We could open up to each other and be able to share thoughts, goals, dreams and even fantasies.

Are you passing the test in your marriage?

Are you overcoming the world to hold on to what God intended? Or are you allowing the enemy of our soul to pull your heart strings at will as if you were his puppet. Using negative thoughts causing negative emotions such as pride, fear, doubt, jealousy, lust, etc.

The enemy of our soul despises love ... For God is love:

1 John 4:8

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

And the enemy of our soul will do anything that he can to destroy the love within a marriage This enemy of our soul seeks to devour your love.

1 Peter 5:8

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour ...

But, you need not live in fear of this enemy of our soul, as God has given us power over him.

Luke 10:18-20

¹⁸ And He said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from Heaven.
¹⁹ Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
²⁰ Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in Heaven.

The power that we have is ... Love.

2 Timothy 1:7

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

We should use this love to overcome the problems within the marriage, instead of allowing negative emotions such as anger and pride to overcome you ... Which just make things worse.

Proverbs 10:12

Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

It is a mutual respect and love that is essential.

1 Corinthians 7:3

Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

Married souls are to love the other as if it were themselves.

Ephesians 5:33

Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Failure to do so can even hinder your prayers.

1 Peter 3:7

Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the Grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

So, the question becomes ... Is the person that you are considering marrying or are married to, or even divorced ... Your Soul Mate? If so ... You may want to consider this:

So ... How do we know that God put you and the one that you are considering marrying or your spouse together? How do we know we are truly with our other half? To discern the Truth ... We must not look at what is, but rather what was.

The questions on the first page of this program may assist you.

Do/Did you want to get married?
Are/Were you forced to get married?
Is/Was pregnancy the reason to get married?
Are/Were you obligated to get married?
Is/Was the choice made out of convenience?
Are/Were you looking for a way to escape something else?

And the essential question ...

Are/Were you in love?

However ... The Truth my friend, is that only the Lord knows the Truth of your situation. Only God knows if the one you are considering or the one you are now with ... Is your destined love.

Obviously, He wants what is best for you, so you must find out from Him what it is that you are to do. Religious leaders, friends, family, Paul's teachings and I can share our opinions and even scripture, but only God can discern the Truth of your particular matter and guide you down the right path, because all situations are different.

Remember what Jesus said that we all need to hear and understand:

Matthew 19:11

All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.

Nobody's opinions can ever be ... "One size fits all."

So the best way to discern if someone is who He destined you to be with is to ask Him in Jesus' name, to reveal the Truth to you. Ask Him to show you His Will. Then trust in Him to reveal the answer.
