Why and How to Love One Another
How to Forgive One Another Counseling

I'm so glad that you have decided to keep walking with me. You certainly appear determined to assure, improve and/or restore or improve your marriage. Way to go!

We have just learned a few tricks of the mind and heart that the enemy of our soul uses to have marriages fade away. But, we know that Marriage is supposed to be all about love. And we know that ... God is love!!!

1 John 4:8

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Let's talk a minute about this "L" word. Yep ... that word called ... Love.

Have you ever heard of unconditional love? Check out the lyrics to this song ... This is real unconditional Love.

Love Song
by Third Day

[1st Verse]
I've heard it said that a man would climb a mountain
Just to be with the one he loves.
How many times has he broken that promise
It has never been done.
I've never climbed the highest mountain,
But I walked the hill of Calvary.

[Chorus]
Just to be with you, I will do anything
There's no price I would not pay no
Just to be with you, I would give everything
I would give my life away.

[2nd Verse]
I've heard it said that a man would swim the ocean
Just to be with the one he loves
All of those dreams are an empty motion.
It can never be done.
I've never swam the deepest ocean,
But I walked upon the raging sea.

[Repeat Chorus]
Just to be with you, I will do anything
There's no price I would not pay no
Just to be with you, I would give everything
I would give my life away.

[Bridge]
I know that you don't understand
the fullness of My love.
How I died upon the cross for your sins.
And I know that you don't realize
how much that I give you
But I promise, I would do it all again.
Just to be with you, I've done everything
There's no price I did not pay no
Just to be with you, I gave everything
Yes, I gave my life away.
Just to be with you.

Would you do anything for the one that you love or the one that loves you? Would you prepare their favorite dinner when they had a bad day? Would you come home from work early if they did not feel well? Would you listen to them through their tears and really try to understand? Would you die for them if the situation required it? Nothing stops you.

What do you do for that which you are passionate for? Just about anything huh?

How To Love One Another Path
How to Forgive One Another With Grace

Your passion should be your marriage. If it's not, then let's work on making that your number one passion. (Besides the Lord of course.)

We are born with the desire to be wanted.

To Be Loved

We know that feeling of wanting to be wanted well, do we not? Think about how that feels for both you and them ... Because our spouse feels the same way. The strong desire to just be loved.

Love will help you become more patient and understanding with your spouse. It will help you focus on the positive attributes, as compared to the negative things in every little single thing they say and do which oft times drives us crazy.

But, how do we overcome this natural instinct and choose to forgive all as we were commanded to do, by our Lord? 1 Corinthians, Chapter 13 speaks of Charity ... Learning how to truly love is the most important thing that we can ever learn to do.

1 Corinthians, Chapter 13

1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

In the Bible ... Charity is the word that is used for unconditional Love. Let's look at some of the Charity verses within this chapter, one verse at a time, which will explain unconditional love.

Want to check out what true Love is?

Let's look at the story of Jacob's love for Rachel.

If you read the story ... You can easily discern that Jacob definitely was in love with Rachel and he proved this love by his devotion and patience by working 14 years for his love. He would have gladly worked a hundred years, because he loved her so deeply.

Think of someone that is well-liked. Why do so many people seem to like them? One reason is probably because they are kind to people. They don't keep their kindness within. They give and show others the love that they feel. In return, they feel love even stronger.

Love is not desirous of anything other than what it has. It wants what it has and does not want what it does not have.

Some people want their partner to be jealous ... They feel "loved" when they know their partner is jealous.

However ... How do you feel when you get hit with jealousy?

It's a strong emotion. One of, if not the hardest, emotion to control.

Jealousy stems from a lack of trust.

How to Forgive One Another Parable

These lyrics are a great example of what jealousy does to us and how dangerous it can be.

Jealousy
by Good Charlotte

For every lie I ever told, for every line I ever sold
For everyone I ever hurt before
I could always find a good excuse
I could always find something to use
I could always find a way out of the truth
Well it used to feel okay inside to get in their face and tell these lies
But not today ... I'm breaking free

Jealousy, look what you've done
You've got a hold of me, you've made me become
Thought I'd never be what I'm running from
This jealousy look what its done

I never thought the day would come to say sorry for the things I've done
I know the list is long but that's all on me
I can't really find the words to make up to ones I've hurt
But I hope they see this side of me
I swear that I've been waiting, I've been waiting, to say

Oh Jealousy, look what you've done
You've got a hold of me, you've made me become
Thought I'd never be what I'm running from
This jealousy look what its done

You rip apart my insides
You know that I can't sleep
You tear apart my whole life
You take the best of me ...

Oh Jealousy, look what you've done
You've got a hold of me, you've made me become
Thought I'd never be what I'm running from
This jealousy look what its done

Oh jealousy, Oh jealousy, look what you've done
You've got a hold of me, you've made me become
Thought I'd never be what I'm running from
This jealousy look what its done

You rip apart my insides (this jealousy)
You know that I can't sleep
You tear apart my whole life (this jealousy)
You take the best of me ...

Oh Jealousy

So, if you find yourself wishing your partner was "jealous" ... Consider showing them that you are trustworthy.

Let's look at the next verse:

Love does not strut or have big ego, isn't boastful, or proud.

How to Love One Another Scripture
How to Forgive One Another Today

Love is not rude. Love does not demand it's own way. If our thoughts are always on how to meet our own needs, how loving do you think we are being towards others? They can sense that we are preoccupied with pleasing ourselves. They can feel the burden that we place on them to fulfill our own wants and needs.

These selfish expectations oft times weigh down the relationship.

Love is not irritable or angered easily. This includes one within the marriage overreacting in anger or rage, and the other overreacting by being oversensitive. It works both ways.

Love overcomes all. Minor problems do not need to result in major arguments. If a mistake was made, apologize, forgive, and move on. No need to relive the moment for an entire week, day or even an hour.

Love keeps no record of wrongs.

Charity does not rejoice about injustice, but rather rejoices when Truth overcomes.

Love is Not a Fight
by Warren Barfield

Love is not a place
To come and go as we please
It's a house we enter in
And then commit to never leave

Lock the door behind you
Throw away the key
We'll work it out together
Let it bring us to our knees

Love is a shelter in the raging storm
Love is peace in the middle of a war
If we try to leave, may God send His angels to guard the door
No, love is not a fight but it's something worth fighting for

To some, love is a word
That they can fall into
But when they're falling out
Keeping that word is hard to do

Love will come to save us
If we'll only call
He will ask nothing of us
But demand we give our all

I will fight for you
Would you fight for me?
It's worth fighting for

How to Love One Another Lyrics
How to Forgive One Another Song

Love endures! It always looks for the best, never looks back but keeps going to the end. Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

This song can be viewed as one struggling while the spouse responds ... "I'm still holding onto you. I understand."

Be Still
by Storyside B

Verse 1:
I remember all the times
The good times and the bad
I'm still holding on to you

Some days I wanna run
And times I come undone
But I still belong to you
That's how I know that

Chorus:
When I feel like caving in
My heart my soul is wearing thin
I just want to give up
Nothing seems at all to add up
Can you hear me Lord?
My face is down upon the floor
It's then you whisper in my ear
Be still and know I'm here

Verse 2:
I see a side of you my friend
The same struggles that I have
My heart goes out to you
I know it's hard to feel alone
And this world's so unforgiving
I've been feeling that way too
But I can tell you

(Repeat Chorus)

Verse 3:
Is that you?
Is this me
It's sometimes hard to believe that
I am not alone

It's not just you
And not just me
We all need to believe that
We are not alone

Repeat of chorus:
When I feel like caving in
My heart my soul is wearing thin
I just want to give up
Nothing seems at all to add up
I know you hear me lord.
When my face is down upon the floor
It's then you whisper in my ear

Be still and know I'm here.
We are not alone.
Be still and know I'm here.
We are not alone.
Be still and know I'm here.
We are not alone.
Be still and know I'm here.
We are not alone.

How to Love One Another Summary
How to Forgive One Another Secret

Let's recap on what we have learned by reading the lyrics of this song.

1 Corinthians
by AceShooter

What if I could move mountains
And gave all I had to the poor?
Would it mean a thing?
Would it mean a thing if I don't have love?
What if I used all the gifts
And gave my body to the flame?
Would it mean a thing?
Would it mean a thing if I don't have love?

And when I pass through that veil
I know perfection comes
The chains will come off
The walls will fall down
The scales will drop
And I'll see Him face to face

Love came to earth so we'd see
A different way to live and grow
Self-seeking in nothing
To show us what it means to walk in love
To show us how to always trust
To persevere and always hope
Give thanks in everything
To show us what it means to walk in love

Love is patient, love is kind
It doesn't envy, doesn't bind
It means everything
It means everything when you have love

We certainly raised the bar today on how we should love and be loved didn't we? It should not be chore. But a goal.

By changing how we love our spouse, it will change our marriage. Our spouse will start to see the changes, and want to be a part of it.

Unconditional Love!

Definitely a worthy goal to shoot for together ... That we can achieve the Love that God intended each couple to have. Why settle for anything less?
