A Prophet Without Honor Explained
A Prophet is Not Without Honor Bible Verse
Let us return to our a Prophet is Not Without Honor adventure and pick up where we dropped off. When Jesus returned from the wilderness by the strength of the Holy Spirit after being tempted for all that time, He went into Galilee and His fame spread throughout all the land. He taught in their synagogues and all the people glorified Him.
This fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah 9:1 and Deuteronomy 18:15.
Now, after this ... Jesus decided to head to His earthly home to do some of God's work. But, something odd happened when He arrived. Let's read about it, shall we?
54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught
them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and
said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?
55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother
called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then
hath this man all these things?
57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them,
A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in
his own house.
58 And He did not many mighty works there because of their
unbelief.
As we head forward into our ... Prophet Without Honor Bible verse voyage, let's take a look at the Scripture that Jesus was reading which was from the Book of Isaiah who was a Prophet from hundreds of years earlier. The prophecy that Jesus was reading was predicting the Messiah's arrival. Jesus was trying to explain ... The Messiah was there before them at that moment. It was Him !!! Here is the Scripture:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, and to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Now, before we sojourn any deeper into the, a Prophet is not without honor Bible story, I would like to research this a little deeper as to fully understand Jesus' point that He was making which His home town people ... Just could never believe. I will paraphrase a bit, but the actual Scriptures are provided throughout this Prophet without honor Bible verse exploration.
As you can imagine, everyone was staring at Jesus after He quoted what He had read. He then tells the people "Today, this Scripture is fulfilled in your ears" ... Again, this meant that what Jesus had just read, was happening to them right then and right there and that it was He, who Isaiah was talking about in that Scripture. I bet you could have heard a pin drop there for a few seconds as they absorbed what Jesus meant.
They became outraged as the doubt and then chaos increased. They did not believe Jesus and they said to one another, Isn't this Joseph's son? They doubted that He could be who He said that He was because they knew Him as a child growing up there. He was from their own town. They knew His parents. This just could not be. Though the Bible Prophecy before Jesus arrived was clear that the Messiah would be one among the people. Someone from their own home country:
The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto Him ye shall hearken;
Their response is exactly what, A prophet is not without honor (Meaning that the Prophet does receive honor) EXCEPT from those who believe that they know Him. Including in His own family.
Jesus said, Truly I say to you, No prophet is believed in His own country. But, I will tell you the truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah when it did not rain for 3½ years and great famine swept the land, but Elijah was only sent to one widow, in Sidon. And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, but none of them were cleansed, except Naaman, the Syrian.
