Welcome Back to
My Brother's Keeper
The Holy Spirit
Step #7
Welcome back my friend!
I trust you've only taken one step each day which is important for your success. Your patience in waiting does not go unnoticed by your Father.
Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from Him cometh my salvation.
I have a secret that will help you to fulfill your calling to represent every day for the rest of your life. You may have heard of Him, but haven't really gotten a chance to really know Him. His name is ...
Remember in Step Five we talked about a wonderful surprise that will help you with controlling your thoughts and your spirit? That surprise is the Holy Spirit!
I have so much to tell you about Him, and then you'll want to get to know Him better yourself. When you discover the Holy Spirit of God ... You'll find that He is your best friend, and that He's real, and that you can't live without Him.
God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost) are really one being, as you may know and if not you can learn more in this study.
The Holy Spirit of
God is the one that responded to God's command Let there be light.
Genesis 1:2-3
Remember you learned that your spirit responds when your mind tells it
something? The Holy Spirit responds when God tells it something too.
What is the Holy Spirit of God?
The Holy Spirit is the Power that separated the Red Sea for Moses ... The Holy Spirit is the power in David's sling that sent a stone upon Goliath's forehead and brought the giant to his knees ... The Holy Ghost is the power that kept the lions from "dining" with Daniel ... The Holy Spirit was the dove that landed on Jesus, at His Baptism John 1:32-33 ... The Holy Spirit was the Power to heal at Jesus' Word ...
The Holy Spirit is the gift that Jesus left for all of us, when He departed to Heaven. Acts 1:4-9 Jesus said, I leave you a Comforter, the Holy Spirit John 16:7 ... John 14:16-21 ... John 14:26 ... John 15:26-17 ... 16:13-14 ... This promise from Jesus, revealed Himself after Jesus was crucified, resurrected and returned to Heaven. Acts 1:2-9 It was Pentecost (50 days after the Resurrection of Jesus ... "Easter") and the followers of Jesus were all gathered together in an upper room and the Holy Spirit, introduced Himself to them in a most unique way. Acts 2:2-4 ... From that point on, the Holy Spirit has been a Comforter to all Christians to provide Spiritual Comfort.
Even today ... Did you know that the only unforgivable sin ... Is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? Matthew 12:31 Knowing this Truth, it would be good to know how someone would commit blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, as to avoid doing so. The Bible says that it is impossible to be forgiven, if one has experienced the GIFT of the Holy Spirit and "fell away" or decided to go back to their old ways, and pretend the Truth never existed, as it would be like crucifying Jesus afresh. Hebrews 6:3-6
Now, this doesn't mean that we won't fall as we travel down our Christian walk. This means we should not fall away and stay away. Always beware because the devil likes to twist scripture around to try and condemn Christians and make them feel they have no part in or have fallen from God's Grace. The Truth is just the opposite:
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but
have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the
world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
It's obvious that God is looking for ways to get us into Heaven, not keep us out. Consider this Truth, Saints, are just the sinners that fall down ... And get up.
Holy Ghost Comforter Trivia ... But, how do we get "introduced" to the Holy Spirit?
All you have to do is believe in Jesus:
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
John 7:39
(But this spake He of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
And ask God for the Holy Spirit.
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?
He will actually speak to your mind and heart, if you will listen.
Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear His voice ...
Our bodies are the Temple of the Holy Spirit.
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
He is waiting for you.
Holy Spirit Comforter Scripture Prophecy

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
For the next few paragraphs, let's talk about the gifts that the Holy Spirit gives to those who ask.
There are also the gifts of the Holy Spirit 1 Corinthians, Chapter 12 ... The entire chapter speaks of these gifts and why God gives these gifts to us, by way of the Holy Spirit. The intent of the gifts is so that we can use them to teach others about God as to edify Him, not us. It says that different administrations require different gifts, but we all work for the Lord and are of the same body of Christ. Here are some of the gifts ... Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith, Healing, Miracle Working, Prophecy, Discerning of Spirits, Tongues and the ability to interpret tongues. 1 Corinthians 12:8-10
Let's take a quick Holy Ghost Comforter field trip and look at some of the administrations that God assigns to those that He chooses and that He gives the gifts of the Holy Spirit to ... Apostles, prophets, teachers, miracle workers, healers, helpers, governments, different tongues. 1 Corinthians 12:28
Many believe that speaking in tongues is something that automatically happens when the Holy Spirit is within you. It is just not true. 1 Corinthians 12:28 ... This reveals to us that the gifts are given as we need them. The gift of speaking in tongues was given to the Apostles Acts 2:3-4 because they spoke to large groups of people of different languages and all people of different languages were able to understand this spiritually universal language. Acts 2:8-12
In 1 Corinthians, Chapter 14 Paul tells us that it is better to prophecy than to speak in tongues. He goes on to say that for one to speak in tongues and not be able to interpret what they are saying to those he is speaking to, is a form of self edification and of no use. It does not edify God. He says in 1 Corinthians 14:19 that he would rather speak five clear words which all could understand, than ten thousand words which nobody understands.
His point is ... Why would anyone want to teach others in an unknown language when those that he is teaching cannot even understand him? In this day and age, we are usually sharing truth, teaching or speaking to another that understands our language and therefore we do not need the gift of Tongues. Perhaps if the administration called for it, God would give it to you in that hour. Again ... The Apostle Paul explains it very well in 1 Corinthians, Chapter 13 ... Desire charity over gifts. Without it ... The gifts are as nothing.
Charity is long suffering, always kind, does not envy or uplift self, does not behave itself unseemly, does not seek it's own gain, is not easily provoked, thinks not on evil, does not rejoice in sin, yet rejoices in the Truth. Charity bears all things, has hope, endures and never fails 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 ... Obtain Faith Hope and Charity. But, the greatest of these is charity. 1 Corinthians 13:13
You should accept your free gift of salvation and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Always have compassion and love for others, lest your gifts bear no fruit.
Getting Acquainted
So, now you know a little more about Who is the Holy Spirit of God, but chances are, you don't understand Him, and that's because you've never gotten to know Him. It's almost as if we're not sure if He's really there or not. He's not like an imaginary vapor that floats around ... He's real! Do you ever acknowledge His presence? Have you ever experienced the Spiritual Comfort?
The first thing you need to do, is have Faith.
1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying,
Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?
2 And Jesus called a little child unto Him, and set him in
the midst of them,
3 And said, Verily I say unto you,
Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not
enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little
child, the same is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Have you ever known a child who had an invisible friend? Have you ever seen such faith? We know that imaginary friends are just that ... Imaginary, but even though the Holy Spirit is invisible, He is not imaginary, He is real!
Sooooo, how do you build a friendship with the Holy Spirit? How do you get to know Him? He already knows you, so there's no need to feel uncomfortable at first. The first thing you need to do, is invite Him, because He is a gentleman, and He won't respond without knowing He's welcome. Like you, He doesn't like to be ignored ... He has feelings too, and being ignored makes Him feel ... Lonely.
Forever Friends
Have lunch with the Holy Spirit. Make a chair available for Him. What do you talk about with a friend over lunch? He is your friend, talk to Him about everyday life things. Read Him the newspaper article you're reading. Watch movies with Him. Tell Him your thoughts about it. Tell Him about your day ahead. Ask Him to accompany you to, and from work. Become aware of His presence. If you have to take your mind off of Him to do your work, He understands, just like any friend would, but in your mind, know He's there. Invite Him with you on your way home from work. Start planning to do things together. Ask Him to read the Bible with you every night. Ask Him to open your heart to understanding the Bible better.
Our minds are always thinking of something. We are constantly thinking to ourselves. Have you ever tried to think of nothing? It's impossible. So, what if you started directing your thoughts to the Holy Spirit? What if, in your mind, instead of just thinking random thoughts to yourself, you told them to the Holy Spirit?
Ask Him to guide your thoughts and ideas, and help you with answers to questions that you have about anything. If you dedicate your thoughts to Him, and by being aware that He is present with you, you're showing your faith and trust in Him, which is the foundation of friendship. Watch a lot of things in your life start to work out better once you begin a friendship with the Holy Spirit.
Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
What does that mean? It means that whatever you do, if you do it for God, your plans will succeed. A friend is also someone who listens. Open your heart and listen to the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to speak to you. Have real conversations with Him. So, as the Holy Spirit says:
Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
He talks to you through the Bible. If you have a question, ask God, in Jesus' name, by way of the Holy Spirit to reveal the answer. Close your eyes, then open your Bible to any page and point your finger without looking, then open your eyes and read. Try this and you may find truths that you have never before encountered.
Does this procedure sound strange?
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Believe to Receive
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
The Holy Spirit will guide you in understanding His answer. He talks through other people to give us insight as well. Sometimes we fail to recognize the Holy Spirit speaking to us in the flicker of a light bulb, goose bumps, brainstorms, a child's smile, the words of a song ... There are all kinds of ways that the Holy Spirit will and does speak to you. How did the Spirit of God speak to the people in the Bible? Through thunder, lightning, casting lots, Urim and Thummim, scripture, prophets, a still small voice ... Open your mind to Him, allow Him in.
Always At Your Side
The Holy Spirit lives inside of you. You are the temple, the home of the Holy Spirit.
He's everywhere and knows everything ... He is God's Spirit. It's not ridiculous to imagine that He is with you whether you're preparing your dinner, out fishing, tucking in the toddler, watching the news, photographing wildflowers, cleaning the garage, during a sleepless night, or anytime and anywhere you invite Him.
Evicting Evil
Let's change gears now. Did you know there are really such things as evil spirits? They're the ones who try and convince people that the evil ways of the devil and of the world are normal and acceptable. Did you also know that evil spirits absolutely hate anything that brings you closer to the Holy Spirit?
Try this: Turn on some Christian Music and start to sing along with it. Feel the Holy Spirit change your spirit. You'll notice that any bad feelings immediately leave, because evil spirits can't stand it that the Holy Spirit is in control, so they have to leave, and the bad feelings leave with them. They cannot compete with God.
Remember in the Adam and Eve story how the devil ruined their perfect relationship with God? Do not let the devil ruin your relationship with what Jesus called the Comforter, the Holy Spirit which lives within you.
Submit yourself to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Obey God, and you won't have to worry about the devil.
There's something important to know about the Holy Spirit. If you start to entertain anything unrighteous (thoughts, people, ungodly television shows, reading material, music, etc.), you'll find that the Holy Spirit won't stick around for that. Any friend who didn't agree with something that you're doing, would do the same. By doing such things, you're inviting evil to drop on by and you give them the opportunity to lure you into bad thoughts or things. You won't find the Holy Spirit in that kind of company.
He will leave until you provide a comfortable environment and invite Him again.
Faithful Friend
The Holy Spirit always has time for you. He never puts you on hold, or refuses an invitation. He's never late and your opinion counts to Him. He's always eager to hear your point of view, and will guide you in the right direction if you're on the wrong path. He's the best friend you'll ever have. He wants to be with you every possible moment that He can be. The Holy Spirit loves you more than you can imagine.
Did you know that He's there when you wake up in the morning waiting for you to include Him in your life? Say Good Morning to Him, first thing, and watch your life improve. If your best friend was with you, and you got up and brushed your teeth and got ready for your day, and never said Good Morning, would they be hurt? Call Him by name ... Say, Good Morning Holy Spirit! Make it a habit to say Good Morning to the Holy Spirit every day before you speak a word to anyone else. Don't be afraid to put a note on your mirror reminding you to greet Him as to obtain and maintain that Spiritual Comfort.
I Thought They'd Never Leave
Once you start establishing your friendship with the Holy Spirit, you'll find that you can't wait for time alone to be with Him. If you miss talking with Him one morning, you'll feel disappointed, not out of guilt or obligation, but out of sincere desire just to be with Him. Bet you never thought you'd ever be anxious to have time "alone" did you? Be careful not to disregard your human friends and family once you get to know the Holy Spirit. He lives in them too, they probably just don't know it ... Yet. He also works through them to influence your life, but also be aware that evil works through people to influence others too.
I've got some more good news for you. You can build the same kind of relationship with God, Jesus, and your Guardian Angel. They all have different personalities, and soon you'll get to know them all, personally. You're never alone.
If you want to see miraculous things happen in your life, surrender your life to the Holy Spirit, the Comforter that Jesus left us to help us with all of our problems.
What does it mean to be ... Filled With the Holy Spirit?
It means this: To voluntarily surrender your life to the control of the Holy Spirit who lives in you, and moment by moment, walk in dependence upon and sensitive to His leadership and His guidance, and to surrender your body, soul, and spirit to Him with childlike faith that He will be what He promised to be in you. Your Comforter and your Helper. He is the provider of the Truth that we've talked about in each step of My Brother's Keeper.
The Holy Spirit is right there with you ...
