Catch you when you fall or teach you how to fly

This forum is for those souls 18 years and older who are dealing with some type of addictive behavior whether it be from alcohol, drugs, overeating, fear, worry, sex, etc. Only with help and guidance from God can we ever hope to overcome these addictions. What is impossible for us to do IS POSSIBLE with God. Friends and family of those stricken with addictions are welcome to share as this problem affects more than just the soul entangled in its web.

Catch you when you fall or teach you how to fly

Real posted this in another thread...but I felt led to post it as a new topic...and add some thoughts to it.

God is the only one who can truly heal us from anything. We often go through the ups and downs of life seeking to heal ourselves of whatever wrongs we are trudging through, when in reality we can do nothing of ourselves. It is only by God's strength that we can overcome.

And we often turn to addictive type behaviors to try and keep from addressing the TRUE problems. It's because it's often easier to hide the truth from ourselves because the truth hurts a lot at times...and the truth often requires change on our behalf....changes we don't want to make because we are stuck in a rut...and it's easier to just stay there than to fight to make the changes.

But recently as I've seen when God leads you to the edge of the cliff...He has a reason...and that reason often is that He has something to show you...something to teach you...or He has healing to do within you...and He needs you to learn to trust Him first...so...do you go or do you stay?

The answer is all in the jump :)

Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Do you know my Jesus? Do you know my friend? Have you heard He loves you? If not, I'd like to introduce you.

"Physician , heal thyself" right ? Just because we know a bit about surgery , by watching or reading about it , and even when we actually become surgeons ! We still can't operate on own ourselves huh ? And even then , a lot of us we try to "fix" the "problem" rather than what's causing it !
We continue on to remedy the consequences , spending all the time and energy on them , that by the time we get to the causes and conditions we're either too "exhausted" or , we say something like , "Well I'm ok now , the consequences have been dealt with , just don't repeat what you did the last time and all will be well !" And we totally get caught unawares when the same situation hits us right between the eyes one more time and we go " but... what happened ? "

Well , what happened is that , we are absolutely powerless over our addictive behaviors , no matter what we do , on our own devices , we simply cannot even come close to remedy the cause , and that is exactly what our Lord wants us to see , a sinner CANNOT save himself neither can an alcoholic and/or addict Un-do his or her addictions , whatever they may be , unless , like you said MLG , we jump ... into His Hands that is !!

Three frogs on a log , one decides to jump . How many frogs on the log you got left ?
Answer : 1 , the one who decided is still on the log , the other two jumped !!

Great topic mlg , thanks for sharing that with us .

In Christ

Vahn,

So very true...one often does try to fix the problem they are in at that time and once it's gone...they feel as if everything will be fine...not realizing that a toothache that is left untreated even after it stops hurting...will hurt again the next time it's irritated...if the tooth is rotten we have to go to the "doctor" and have Him remove it for us...so the pain can't resurface over and over. But...we often want to just settle for a little bit of quick fix ointment(often the addictive type behavior) instead of doing what we need to do to get to see the Physician so He can remove the tooth...
Do you know my Jesus? Do you know my friend? Have you heard He loves you? If not, I'd like to introduce you.
