God's Laundry
Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me.
Psalm 51:7-15 (The Message)
Soak me in your laundry and I'll come out clean,
scrub me and I'll have a snow-white life.
Tune me in to foot-tapping songs,
set these once-broken bones to dancing.
Don't look too close for blemishes,
give me a clean bill of health.
God, make a fresh start in me,
shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.
Don't throw me out with the trash,
or fail to breathe holiness in me.
Bring me back from gray exile,
put a fresh wind in my sails!
Give me a job teaching rebels your ways
so the lost can find their way home.
Commute my death sentence, God, my salvation God,
and I'll sing anthems to your life-giving ways.
Unbutton my lips, dear God;
I'll let loose with your praise.
I find The Message phrasing of this scripture so picture-creating....I can see God's hand giving me a snowy Holy Spirit scrubbing...putting the singing joy of the Lord in my heart. I can imagine Him setting the rooms of my heart in order, making something beautiful out of the mess I've made.
I can almost feel His care and concern as He draws me out of myself and gives me a fresh outlook on life. He gives me a purpose and delivers me from darkness and certain doom....and makes me want to tell everyone what He will do for them.
The pictures that some of the Psalms paint for me are images of how our Father wants us to feel about His feelings for us. He sent Jesus so that we could be washed, new...clean...holy...set apart for His purpose. His is a 'perfect love'.
This is how God wants us to feel. Loved, cared for, important to Him. The Apostle John was always calling himself "the one whom Jesus loved". He wasn't being stuck up or self important...he understood exactly how God intends us to feel....like we are His favorite.
You and I are just as loved by the Lord as John was. We need to understand just how loved we are by Him to set our own feelings in perspective. Not that we will never 'feel' sad, lost, unhappy, etc. Just that, when we understand the way we are loved by God, it helps us place all other emotions in the Light of salvation.
The understanding of this love brings an unhappy soul into quiet peace within the Holy Spirit. A quieted, peaceful spirit means all fear is driven out, for~~~
1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
Do you think that because you have feelings from a fear base that this love will not be perfected in you? Not so....you have the ability in you for overcoming fear and all his ugly friends....
1 John 4:12No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
Loving one another. Jesus made a point of that too. It's not an impossibility....for as that scripture also points out....we have the living God in us. And believing that, getting it into our spirits that He truly lives in us...we can tap into that power....that's the first step in driving out fear.
Loving others also involves us in something other than our own existance. It calls us to look outward and focus on someone else's feelings. Someone else's needs. That can take effort and requires we call on God for help and direction.
But remember how God loves us? Like each of us is His favorite. He is more than willing to help us in any situation, especially when it means we can show His love to another. We're not dealing with some small minded god here. Our God is everywhere, all-powerful and all-knowing. It's knowledge like that which comforts my spirit.
You have Perfect Love living inside you. He waits for you to call on Him, and ask Him for deliverance from fear. He longs to show you how to overcome anger, sadness, loneliness..... He desires your attention and affection. After all, you're His favorite.
Dear friends, I pray as Paul did, that... "Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge Âthat you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God." {Ephesians 4:17-19} In Jesus name, Amen.
