Life After Abuse: Will you ever get over it?

This forum is for those souls 18 years and older who are dealing with some type of addictive behavior whether it be from alcohol, drugs, overeating, fear, worry, sex, etc. Only with help and guidance from God can we ever hope to overcome these addictions. What is impossible for us to do IS POSSIBLE with God. Friends and family of those stricken with addictions are welcome to share as this problem affects more than just the soul entangled in its web.

Life After Abuse: Will you ever get over it?

At times, it seems as though the abuse you have been through will always dominate your life. But it isn't usually so. Over time, it becomes a small part of who you are. You will build on experiences and the past abuse will become less and less dominant. The pain and confusion fades.

It is going to affect you for a while. You have had emotional and situational losses. Don't worry about a timetable for recovery. Be kind to yourself and heal in your own time.

You may have had a loss of trust by someone you love. The betrayal is profound and healing may be a long process.

Some people seek counseling. It can be very helpful to make sense of the pain and conflicting emotions. You can also contact your local shelter. The Department of Children and Family Services should have a list of local shelters. They may have a support group for people just like you who are healing.

Spend some time rediscovering yourself. Reconnect with friends and family. Enjoy your freedom to spend your time doing what you enjoy.

Above all else, share your pain with the Lord. Turn to Him. Give Him all your fear, doubt, anger, and pain. Trust in Him to deliver you. You are God's child and He loves you more than you could ever imagine.

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength. Isaiah 26:4,5

God bless and protect all of you.

My resolution for today, next month, and years to come is to be further from the world and closer to the Word.
