Understanding the Grace of God

Hosted by Saint 701 ... This forum is for the purpose of examining the subject of Grace and its great place in God's work in the body of Christ Jesus of which we are a part. "The Book of Romans" was chosen for the title since that book is so rich in Grace to us, but in no way is this forum limited in examining Grace to only the "Book of Romans."

Understanding the Grace of God

Hello Christianity Oasis, All...

The Grace of God by definition is His gift of unmerited favor to us. However, unmerited favor by itself is an abstract concept that leaves us with an incomplete understanding of what grace actually is. Unmerited favor is without form and void, something like the heavens and the earth were at one time. Unmerited favor lacks structure. It needs to be given form and substance. If we discuss grace and say, “Well, as I understand it, it is unmerited favor given us by God.” If that is how we discuss grace among ourselves, we really haven’t discussed it at all have we?

To thoroughly understand grace we need to give it form and substance. Those of you that have read some of my articles know that I often describe God the Father as our Lord of Lords King of Kings, Lord God Almighty Love Dad. You know I love to talk about Him in terms of Him being the Head of a heavenly family that we have been adopted into. We are His sons and daughters, members of His Royal Household. He loves us so much that He will not deny us any good thing.

Furthermore, I love to portray our Loving Father God Dad and His Son our Lord and Savior sitting on connected thrones of golden, blazing glory. I love to believe that I can sit down across from them without any fear whatsoever…why? Because between me and my Heavenly Dad the Blood of Christ flows. It is the Blood of the New Covenant, an everlasting covenant that guarantees my Heavenly Dad will always find “GRACE” when I enter into His magnificent presence mindful of the Blood Covenant He has made with us.

Heb.13

[20] Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, [21] Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Now we are beginning to surround grace with a framework. We have begun to give grace form and substance. We have begun to understand why we have been given grace and what grace is. Grace is the avenue through which God’s love flows to us. Grace is God’s love for us in action. I love to describe the love of God who is love like this. He is the origin and perfect essence of all that is love or ever can be made love. We have unmerited favor with God because He is a Father that loves His family. We are of His family…He is our Dad…Grace comes to us because of His great, great love for us.

Now we have begun to understand some of what it means to give grace form and substance, but let us build our understanding of it up a little more…a lot actually. There is a Spirit of Grace. Heb.10:29 Grace is a living creation of God that cannot be separated from Him. With the Spirit of Truth comes the Spirit of Grace as well. The Spirit of Grace is also our Comforter. I say that because having unmerited favor with God is comforting.

John.1
[14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
[17] For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Jesus Himself is the Spirit of Grace. It is Jesus that lives in us and the Father lives in us through the same grace and truth that is in Christ Jesus. If there is a Spirit of Truth given to us, and the Spirit of Truth is Christ our Lord, then Christ our Lord is also the Spirit of Grace that is given to us, also called the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Ghost.

Eph.2
[8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.

Now grace has been given form and substance to us. Grace is Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, for it is He that has saved us from our sins. For by Grace we are saved. The gift of God to us is God Himself! God Himself is our grace!

Love, In Christ Jesus, saint
It is most certainly far better to die in faith believing, than it is to live in unbelief.
