Understanding the Disposition of our Soul

Hosted by Saint 701 ... This forum is for the purpose of examining the subject of Grace and its great place in God's work in the body of Christ Jesus of which we are a part. "The Book of Romans" was chosen for the title since that book is so rich in Grace to us, but in no way is this forum limited in examining Grace to only the "Book of Romans."

Hello All,

*AngelYellow*
Blessings!

Why discuss the disposition of the soul? The soul is the seat of our will. We live or die by the choices we make within ourselves.

Heb.10

[39] But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to thesaving of the soul

Matt.16

[26] For what is a man profited, if he shall gainthe whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Luke.9

[25] For what is a man advantaged, if he gainthe whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

Disposition: The tendency for us to choose to do things a certain way

We discuss the disposition of the soul in Christianity because within it (our soul) lies the seat of our will. It is there we begin our faith walk by believing in the work of Jesus on our behalf. And it is from our continuance in Christ through the will of our soul that we keep it (our soul) unto salvation.
The problem with our soul that most do not understand is that we must learn how to stop willing to continue doing things out of the mind of our flesh and begin willing to do things out of the mind of our spirit.
Such requires that we learn to distinguish between the mind of our flesh and the mind of our spirit.

We were at our Brother Donald's house on Big Bend near Webster University a few days ago. Our brother had determined to have a dead tree in his back yard removed by Ray's Tree Service. At first he thought it would be best to have the limbs and sections of the trunk taken to the company’s chipper, shredder, chopper thing via the west end of his house. Later, however, it popped into his mind that the limbs, etc. could be removed through his garage. We asked him why such occurred to him. He replied that it was just his subconscious mind at work. Wonderful, we thought, as such gave us an opportunity to teach about the mind of our spirit.

What we call our subconscious mind is in reality the mind of our spirit. The mind of our spirit is not subconscious. It only seems to us that he is because that is what the world has taught us, that such things come from our unknowable and unpredictable subconscious mind. Pfft! Our spirit is very willing to be recognized and help us in every endeavor. Our spirit will remain unknowable if that is what we choose to believe. If we choose to make the disposition of our soul to act according to the leading of our spirit we will have supernatural help we never dreamed that we could have. Paul taught his flock about the mind of the spirit this way.

1Cor.2

[11] For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

[12] Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

We understand from verse eleven above that the spirit given to us of God knows what is stored in our mind about those things our soul has been or is considering. That thing that pops into the mind of our soul comes from our spirit. We do not think it up ourselves. Pop, there it is. Evil thoughts do not pop into the mind of our soul from our spirit which has been given us of God. Our spirit knows that good thing in our mind that is a possible choice for our soul to consider. Such choices are always good. If we will our spirit to help us in our daily walk we will begin to see more good choices pop into our mind. Our spirit is subject to the will of our soul. If we choose we can have our spirit remind us of appointments, things we have thought of that need to be done, or show us better ways to do things. If we are willing to walk in our spirit we will give over our will to him for guidance in all things. Such decisions begin the process of saving our soul by walking in the mind of Christ. We must always ask our spirit to show us the choices of our Lord. And in some cases, such as showing us our error after we have had an interview or taken a test does not help us. We must teach our spirit to show us our error in choice while we are choosing, not afterward. And we must teach our spirit to reign in our soul when it is headed in the wrong direction. He will keep us from sin if our will is submitted to our Lord.

In verse twelve above Paul teaches us our spirit has a second function. That second function is actually more important than the first, as our spirit can see into the mind of God through the Holy Spirit if we will him to do so. If we will our spirit to teach us about the things of God through the Holy Spirit, he will. The Holy Spirit knows what is in the mind of our Lord Jesus. Such helps us continue walking in the spirit as it is the Holy Spirit that is teaching us through our spirit.

Let us just keep this in mind that we have submitted our soul to a growth process and we do not grow into all spiritual of God’s son’s things overnight anymore than we are born of the flesh an adult individual. As it is written, through our patience we keep our souls. Patience is a must! We must choose to be patient and wait on the Lord in some things, and we will if we have submitted our soul to our Lord.

The very best thing we can ask of God to help us walk in the spirit, is to ask Him to give us a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. Being taught by the Holy Spirit through our spirit is an essential component in the saving of our soul. A soul that is ignorant of spiritual things is a soul that is in danger. Remember, God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places, so asking Him for spiritual blessings or to be transformed in our soul from glory to glory is His will. If we make the desire of our heart to be one with the desires of our Lord’s heart we will grow spiritually as He wills and we will keep our souls unto salvation. We will keep our souls unto salvation because we have made the disposition of our soul to yield to the Spirit/spirit God has given us. So let us ask of the Lord to bless us spiritually according to those things written of us in the Old and New Testaments, as it is His will we live a spiritual life and be His sons and daughters and that our soul be saved.

Eph.1

[17] That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
[18] The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
[19] And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
[20] Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
[21] Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
[22] And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
[23] Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.

Having such a spirit will stop us from trying to reason out the truths of the Bible through the mind of our flesh. Such reasonings of the flesh are why we have umpteen denominations with umpteen different belief systems. Here O Israel, our Lord is one! We must remember that our Lord has taught us that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. We have gazillion denominations because they all say the same thing. All denominations say join us because we are the ones that have the gospel right. Pfft….then why does your doctrine vary from the doctrine of other denominations? There are no denominations or divisions in Christ Jesus. All are to be one in Christ Jesus and that not of religion or the mind of the flesh, but the mind of the Spirit/spirit, and in the mind of Christ.

When we are walking in the spirit we are walking in the mind of Christ, as it is written, he has given us of His Spirit.

1John.4

[13] Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hathgiven us of his Spirit.

Our highest place of abiding in Christ is when He is in us and we are in Him. Over the centuries many would be wonderful sons of God have failed to completely dwell in Christ and have Him dwell completely in them because such requires the laying down of the will of the soul at His feet. Such seems unreasonable, but once we come to understand that living in Christ and He in us keeps our soul alive, we will shy away from living in the will of our flesh knowing such will bring us death.

The strongest desire we should have as a Christian In Christ Jesus is to be rooted and grounded in our desire to please our Heavenly Dad. That is what the disposition of our soul should be, to honor Him. It pleases Him when we are rooted and grounded in His love. We cannot produce the love of God in us, however. His love comes to us from the Holy Spirit when our Lord Jesus is in us and we are in Him. We prove our love for God by laying down our will and submitting to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. No man has greater love than this, than to lay down their life, (the will of our soul), for a friend. Jesus is our friend and love brother if we follow the leading of the Spirit of God. It is a very, very good thing to be of the sons of God and walk in that knowledge. Knowing we are of the sons of God should be enough motivation for us to walk in the way that pleases Him, and that is to walk in the Spirit/spirit. Our soul must have a spiritual disposition.

It is most certainly far better to die in faith believing, than it is to live in unbelief.
