I am 49 years old. I have many times asked God to speak to me. I hear people talk about the small still voice. I have never heard it. I have had people come to me with a word from God. Twice. They have told me things about myself I have never told anyone until I spilled the beans on this forum. they answered questions that I was struggling...I mean down to the very question I had on my mind at that moment.

However, I would say that for me...the small still voice seems to have never happened. Not to my knowledge. I would love to hear a word from God...especially in this situation, but that doesn't happen in my walk.

I admit my mind is very cluttered. I grew up an only child on a farm in the middle of nowhere. I talk to myself constantly...it is just way I'm wired to process information. I intend to look at the Holy Spirit Bible - Spirit of Truth study today or very soon.

Anyone have any insight....I am at a loss. I have been raised to believe that all real Christians have the Holy Spirit and that all are capable of hearing the small still voice. Do I have it all wrong?

I don't know babylon. There are so many here that have the words and understanding greater than I that can and will answer your question. I would like to share what I know happened for me was it began with asking God and then I'm heard an answer. Such as I lost my keys. Locked out of the house, couldn't start the vehicle, had 3 little ones who were hungry and thirsty and had no bathroom, no cell phone. Was hours before help would come. I sat down on the passenger side of the vehicle, front seat, with the door open and said something like, "Lord you know where those keys are and could show me if you want to. I'm asking that you show me so that I can get this children inside and take care of their needs. I "heard" look down. Was not a voice, but more of a thought. An idea. I looked down and staired at the ground and heard, "What are you looking at." It was not an audible voice but simular to my own thoughts. When I focused my eyes there sticking out of the sandy drive was a tiny edge of silver metal. I brushed the sand off and there was my keys. I don't know how they got on the passenger side of the vehicle or buried in the sand. But I know that day I realized God does guide us and I can listen to Him through these thoughts or what I know as "still small voice" that is with in my mind if I pay attention.

I concur with Pine. A still small voice is often just as Pine described. A thought that comes to your mind. Sometimes it feels more as just a thought of your own. Or maybe it is a thought that you think where did that come from? A thought that may just come out of the blue.

A thought that comes to my mind as I'm typing to you is this is a thought about communication. Communication is a two way straight. It is both talking and both listening. Prayer is communication with the Lord.... but if I'm not careful, I find myself doing all of the talking Sometimes I need to just sit back and listen.

Sorry... back to hearing from the Lord. There are so many ways that He speaks to me. 1) He speaks to me through His Word, 2) He speaks to me as I described above through prayer - but I have to be still enough to listen, and 3) Yes He speaks sometimes through that still small voice. That thought. That answer. That direction or knowledge. That assurance.

I don't know if this helps or not. But, I would conclude by saying - just as throughout Scripture we see Him manifesting healing through various ways (speaking, touching, spitting, mud, etc.) He also speaks in a still small voice in different ways to different people.

If your choices that I have seen you make during this path thus far are any indication of the choices you have made for the last 49 years ... I know why you have not heard the Holy Spirit to date and will share the answer with you.

As you have shared ... He IS trying to communicate with YOU.

Your own words confirm this:

God IS answering your request to hear Him, by sending instruments that you CAN hear, as you have just shared. This is done because something is interfering with the transmission from HIM to YOU.

Plant that seed of TRUTH deep within.

ADMIT to yourself that God DID hear and IS trying to communicate with you as you requested.

This should be the foundation of your renewed search.

You DID ask to speak with Him ... He IS trying to reach you.

Just as He does for all His children ... Which answers another question you had.

It is written: EVERY one who asks ...

Matthew 7:7-8 ... Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For EVERY one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

But, then there is the faith factor ...

Mark 11:24 ... Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

But, Faith is obviously NOT the interference in this case ...

We KNOW that God is sending Instruments to you saying "I am here and answering you"

If this were telephone lines, it could be said that God HEARD you on His end cuz we KNOW that your phone call DID reach GOD cuz He responded thru other Instruments.

So, your SENDING is working and His RECEIVING is working.

This reveals one simple TRUTH ... The problem is definitely on your RECEIVING end.

But, the question still remains ... What is the communication barrier which you described?

You cannot HEAR for TWO reasons and both can be found within the other words you have shared.

This "clutter" is thoughts which create emotions (Spiritual change) and this spiritual change is YOUR spirit responding to negative thoughts. It can ONLY hear YOUR THOUGHTS which are confusion, doubt, anger, pride, lust, jealousy, etc.

YOUR spirit can NOT hear God's Spirit.

The human spirit is a CANDLE for God to see our thoughts:

Proverbs 20:27 ... The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

You see, God's Spirit communes with our spirit and emits our soul's condition to God:

Romans 8:26-27 ... Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

So HE hears your soul ... And is why He is answering by way of others to let you know He IS there and DOES hear you.

The prob is that God is a Spirit and to HEAR Him we must be IN SPIRIT.

John 4:24 ... God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him IN SPIRIT and in truth.

How do we know when we are IN SPIRIT?

By the FRUITS ...

Here are the fruits of the Spirit:

Galatians 5:22-23 ... But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance:

So, we must reach that realm to be able to HEAR.

We must THINK ON THESE THINGS as to enter that realm.

Phillippians 4:8 ... Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, THINK ON THESE THINGS.

These are not pretty words ... They are a RECIPE.

A PROCEDURE.

It is simple ... Ya think sad thoughts you cry, you think happy thoughts you laugh. Both the body and spirit obey the soul's thoughts.

Make NO MISTAKE. When we are downtrodden, He hears our soul by way of our spirit aching and the Holy Spirit relaying it to God as shared before.

So, during these times HE hears us, but we ... Can NOT hear HIM.

UNLESS WE CHANGE OUR THOUGHTS as to TUNE into the fruits of the Spirit.

Like ... RADIO WAVES, if you will.

Just like a tower which emits waves to a radio ... ONLY if it is tuned in.

But what of GOOD days?

You know, the days we have it going on?

How come we cannot hear Him then?

Many are unable to HEAR the Holy Spirit during the times they are "spirited" cuz they feel they have no need to call on God. In TRUTH, they do not even think about Him cuz they are so caught up in their own selfish desires being met. Usually a woman, man or material gain involved.

THIS ... is reason #1 why you can not HEAR Him.

Your thoughts are having your spirit emit messages to God and in TRUTH ... Even to us here today as we HEAR your soul as well.

But, you can not HEAR Him cuz the same spirit (yours) is so busy responding to another phone call ... YOUR own thoughts.

Perhaps you will choose to HEAR these Words.

Now, let us look at reason number two ...

I intend to look at the Holy Spirit Bible - Spirit of Truth study today or very soon.

You want to HEAR from the Holy Spirit, you have the means to enhance your relationship with Him by way of a new avenue you have discovered and you will get around to it soon?

If this was human LOVE ... You woulda been all over this, looking into it the second you learned of it.

THIS is the second hindrance ...

Kinda like when the moon asked the sun "why is it that I oft times sit in darkness " ... The SON responded, "it is because you let the world come between us" ...

Something between you and God which you put before Him.

I have found that we usually lose whatever it is when we do.

You are an intelligent soul, so I will let you do the math from here ...

God's will ... Be done.


NOTE TO ALL READING THIS SHARING: I have heard it said that if someone does not hear the Holy Spirit, they are not true Christians.

HOGWASH ...

They are merely Christians in training, as we ALL are.

God is slowly and carefully molding us. Carving away the world.

He sees what we CAN BE ... NOT what we are.

Will there are times that I cannot hear the Holy Spirit..and it's not because I don't love Jesus...it's because I've wandered away some...and I have placed a void between me and God...usually a sin that I keep repeating...a sin I haven't repented of....selfishness of wanting to do things my way or wanting something right away....sometimes thinking I can do it on my own and I don't need God's help...and the list goes on and on...so many things can stop us from hearing God...that's why we need to make God first above all things...reading our Bible, praying, listening to Christian music, just sitting and resting and talking with Him...if we get our relationship with Christ where it needs to be then we will begin to Hear His voice...that voice will not be a voice you hear outloud...but that urging inside....the one that kind of prods you out of the blue...that is His voice.

I did start the Holy Spirit Lesson. When said very soon, I meant as soon as I was finished typing or later in the afternoon. I was able to begin as soon as I was finished typing.

CO, your words do convict me. Since the stepping stone path, I have been less prone guilt, but still working on doing away with the bad things I think about myself. I am trying.

I know you are trying ... It shows in every heartfelt word you share.

Excellent to hear that you are looking into the Spirit of TRUTH program ... You will find peace within IF you will HEAR His voice.

I seek not for my shared words to convict you, but rather to set you FREE.

You have enough people trying to keep your soul encaged.

The healing process takes time, in particular when you are still knee deep in the trials and tribulations as you are.

One day at a time ...

Matthew 6:34 ... Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

But, let us look at the previous verses for THEY are the message that I seek to share today.

Matthew 6:25-32 ... Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? In particular this verse ...

But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Tho it speaks of food and clothing ... It also goes for OTHER things we want.

God tends to hook us up with everything we need and oft times that which we want ... IF we choose HIM first.

2 Chronicles 1:11-12 ... And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.

Put HIM first and you will see change ONE way or another.

Beats the alternative.
