Ahh...Thought Control. Here's a subject I have almost 4yrs. of experience at. And it's been a loooong road, but so is the distance between how I thought and how I think. I can tell you firsthand one way NOT to deal with it...and that's having your spouse regularly remind you and question you about what you 've been thinking. I submitted to it under what I thought was being 'totally open and honest', though the 'honesty' was stretched mighty thin at times. Certianly a recipe for disaster or an OCD sufferer.
My Phsycologist told us that we are not responsible for the thoughts that automatically pop into our heads, only for what we do with them. I've come to realize that we cannot dwell on these defeats, if and when they happen, but we must immediately surrender them to God, and move on. If we use the tools in the steps, over time the frequency will slow, and we can start to celebrate the length of time between. Focusing on the positive and not the negetive...that's what leads to healing.
God Bless all,
Wonder
