This is one of my most treasured memories. I carry this letter from my dad in my purse everywhere I go...and have for over 11 years now.

September 14, 1999

An old man once told me a story about how good it is that God above has never gone on strike, because he was not treated fair in things he didn't like. If only once he had of given up and said, that's it I am through, I have had enough of those on earth, this is what I am going to do. I will tell the sun to cut off the heat supply and the moon will give no more light and the oceans will run dry. Then to make things really tough and put the pressure on, I will turn off the oxygen till every breath is gone. We know he would be justified, if fairness was the game. For no one has been more abused or met with more disdain than God. Yet he carries on and everything is for free. A lot of people in life say they want a better deal and they go on strike, but what a deal we have given God to whom all things we owe. We don't care whom we step on at times to gain the things we like; but what a mess we'd all be in if God should go on strike. This was a very interesting story to be; it makes you stop and think and to take time to touch the roses. This old gentleman went on to tell me to take time to love and be loved by your loved ones as it is a God given privilege. He then went on to say to read your Bible as it is the fountain of wisdom, pray for it is the greatest power on earth. He went on to say in life we need to give and help others with not a day to be selfish and I remember last this he left me by saying we need to take time to laugh as it is the music of our soul. I guess this old man at the time just needed someone to talk to so I listened.

Love Daddy

I later found out this old gentleman was my grandfather.
