Was in the yard raking leaves. And remembering stories people told me about their dads. Good stories. Stories that made me cry from being so happy for this person that they had a dad that was gentle and kind.

We so often speak about what our dads did that hurt us or effected us in a negative way. I would like to start a thread about what our dads did that was positive.

I'm hoping you all will at least take the time to say one good word about your dad here in this thread. I'm sooooo anxious to read about them.

When considering this thread I realized I have to say something first about my dad that is positive.

What I remember about my dad that actually makes me smile is his smile. When he was smiling his face had a glow about it. It caused others around him to smile. Someone once told me they knew I was his child because my face glowed the way his did when I smiled. If I carried one of my dads traits that would be the one I would want. I am certain now that he is witnessed the fullness of Gods love and grace his face glows constantly.

My Daddy
I was outside with my father the sun was shining bright spring had just arived he was holding my little ilooked up at him and asked him if he put the flowers in the field he looked down at me and laughed said no God put them there for little girls to enjoy.
I love thease flowers in the grass and cant wait for spring to come their the wild violets i think thats what they are called.
we had this big field by our house the whole field was almost always coverd with them in the spring it looked like a blanket
I also have a precious moment of my heavenly father to that day and my
father didnt know he sparked a love in my heart God that day,
i shared that memory with him when he visited with me a year ago last summer. i pray its sparked a love for Jesus in his heart.

There were so many of us kids, we seldom go one on one time with dad.
Always in groups. Often either the older ones or the younger ones.
I was amongst the younger ones. I am #6 son.

One dark cold windy winter evening dad took us younger kids to
speed skating practice in Detroit. It was a cold night! Many of the
skaters would spend most of the time in the warming hut drinking hot
chcolate trying to keep warm. But there was one who enjoyed to cold
wind against his face.

While the others were inside the warming hut, Dad came out to get me
to come inside. I declined the offer. I wanted to stay out and practice.
I had the whole skating oval to myself.

A few minutes later I hear a voice behind me. "Stretch it out. Longer
srtides. Throw that right foot over the left. Push with that left leg.
Bend down low when skating into the wind."

I felt a warmth in my heart. A strength I hadn't known before. Joy
engolfed my very being! MY Dad was coaching ME! My dad was himself
a champion skater, but he never coached us. Till now. And it was only
with me. I started to cry. My tears froze on my face. I had to crack
the ice off my eye lashes. My dad was spending his time with me.
Just me!

Ain't that just like it is with Father God sometimes as well.

My dad didn't talk much. But his actions spoke louder than words.

I learned to hold the door open for others by watching him.
At church, he would wait at the door if someone was several steps
behind us, then hold it open. In those days lots of people went to church,
so it was often a few minutes process for us to finally get into the the
church. He always opened the car door for mom.

Dad always gave more of himself than what was asked.
I had asked for help replacing a water hose on the car.
Ended up with a new fan belt, a new spark plug, and an oil change, too.
When asked for 50 cents to go downtown to the movie theater,
he'd give us a dollar. In those days 50 cents bought two movies
and some cartoons.

When it snowed he would shovel our walk and the walk of the neighbor's
walks on both sides of us. Now, my wife says I have an OCD. I can't
put the shovel down till I've done our neighbors walks as well.
Keeper of the Light is another story, he can't stop till everyone on
the street has a clear walk. Then we go inside and enjoy mom's
hot chocolate and peanut butter toast.

My dad was an electrician. In the olden days he was often called upon
by friends and neighbors to help with electrical issues. From light
switches and outlets to toasters and vacuums. He would always do
more than just fix what was broken. He would go around and check
the other electical connections in the house. Appliances would be
returned not only fixed but cleaned, inside and out. In those days
payment was made with a home made pie or freshly baked bread.

When fixing things around the house he'd work on them till it worked
as if it were bran new. Once fixed, always fixed. Never had to
return to the same problem twice.

Dad didn't talk much.
But if there was a situation he was involved with, we all knew things would be ok.

wow pine, ima lil conflicted cuz i wanna share something good about my bio father and something good about my stepdad (adopted me).

Ok, my bio father... one day i was gonna ride my sidewalk bike down this really big hill. I was idk about 5 yrs old. He was a cop. Well, i busted my head wide open and he rushed me to hospital in cop car. They took me straight from his arms. I have a lil scar on my forehead that looks kinda like a cross. Reckon head wounds bleed worse than u'd think with my lil scar .


Ok on to who i considered my dad.... i dont recall having much one on one time growing up. I had gotten really bad sick...i don't remember much of that stay; they said i almost died... they didn't have any health insurance on me. He told me he would've given up everything to see me live.

Oh! One REALLY cool thing about my dad.... when i was about 9yrs old, he bought me the most AWESOME pony for Christmas. And the memories i have from being with my pony i owe him for that.

Goldie!!! You got a pony for Christmas!! You are spoiled rotten.

Snowy asked for a purple (or was it pink) pony for Christmas every year.

What wonderful memories. Must make you feel so warm inside remembering being wrapped up in his arms. The love shared. How completely precious. Hold tight to those memories sis. Very very tight. Thank you for sharing. I feel warm inside just picturing your precious memories. *tears*

I loved absolutely loved the stories. You and keeper of the light is so precious to me. Like father like son, like father like son.

Just sitting for a few extra moment to appreciate all the wonderful picture words you've shared with me.

I have another memorie of A father but this ones not my birth father
His name was Alexaznder he came from Germany with his wife and children,

A church attopted his family and they came to America to live he was in a consentration camp over there in Germany. i learned of this affter he passed way a year ago this Pst September.

How i was blessed to meet this man my Mother started working with him at a local Bakery they started dateing they were engaged for 18 years long engagement yup yup my mother broke it off for renewed Christian
beliefs. thwey kept their friendship and it became strong he gave his heart to the Lord Jesus is awsome.

My brothers and i met him in 1978 i was 11 years old he saw my mother was struggling to keep food on the table so he took it upon him self to feed us he cooked extra food just for us.he bought our medicinc when we got sick.

Now for the Fun stuff he camr over on the weekends and we would watch wrestling and we would get him mad bt telling him it was fake in his broken english his German accsent would come out and say its not fak its not fak he couldn't say fakewe would bust a gut laughing he finaly caught on .
he took us to see the wwf wrestling matches the one on tv like a family
it was fun even thoug i was'nt much of a fan just loved being with him i
trusted him and loved him.
this was funny to i was reading a comic book he took it from me and hear
let me read it to you in his broken english he read it to me in German i "think" i could go on with all the memorys i have of Alex it would be a big novel and i would have to give you an adograph,

I'm glad you had a friend like Alexaznder to share in your young life. Even if they aren't our fathers they are father figures and can plant some very valuable seeds. Funny how you were willing to watch wrestling just to be with him. Even though it's Fak.

Guess I am one of very few to have had a wonderful family and childhood. My Mom & Dad were married for 43 years before Moms passing and I remember every Saturday my mom would fry up chicken, make a salad and other stuff, put in the fridge then on Sunday morning we would get up and have a family day out and up in the mountains. Was great.
I remember once we went up to Donner summit in the winter, snow all over and about 20 degrees. I played in the snow making snowmen and snowballs to where my hands were blue. Dad wrapped them in some socks and under a blanket and he told me to keep them under there till we got home. I remember how they tingled and dad say that was the blood coming back into them. Was a great time.

Funny how kids will go right past the being cold stage on into nearing frost bite before they'll stop playing. Probably even then you were made to stop playing in the snow.

Thank you for sharing the beautiful pictures with me. They sound just lovely. I can just see your dad gently tenderly taking care of your frozen hands.

Love that your dad wrapped your hands in socks. He cared for you. What a wonderful picture of how our heavenly father tends to us out of a deep love till we get home.
